Gunsmithing Brno Model 1 / CZ 452 stock inlet question

Anyone know if a Brno Model 1 can be fit into an aftermarket stock with a CZ452 inlet ? Maybe a CZ 453 ? My understanding is that the CZ's are pretty direct descendants of the Brno, and CZ mags work in my Brno. I've been googling and searching to little effect.

Thanks in advance !

Hi there. Did you ever resolve this question? I am about to get my hands on a model 1 but the stock is rather poor so am looking at alternatives. Thanks. BBSA

Re: Brno Model 1 / CZ 452 stock inlet question

It is my understanding that a BRNO #1 ,ZKM 451, can be made to fit a "older" 452 stock...with some fitting and inlet for the barrel lug...I think it can go in a Trainer or Lux [still a 452]as well with some fitting of the sight boss......might have to mess with the rear trigger guard screw, mag well....I have 2 of these rifles, with the 2 stage trigges, and they are among my favorites..I guess you could send the stock out to be duplicated, but be aware that the process may damage the original....

Re: Brno Model 1 / CZ 452 stock inlet question

Hi Thickstrings. Thanks for response - more or less as I expected. My plan at this stage is to go for one of the new Boyd's RVT stocks which has a nice high cheekpiece for scope use. I'm sure some of you out will cringe at that but I'm not intending to do anything irreversible to the rifle. It used to belong to my Grandather but has been a bit abused over the last 30-something years by my cousin so is in less than pristine condition. A pity, because judging by Grandpa's other guns that I own, I'm pretty sure it was pristine when Grandpa passed away. I also have a model 410B Mauser .22 (belonged to Grandpa's brother) that I will use for any unscoped work.

Re: Brno Model 1 / CZ 452 stock inlet question

One thing to note, I have mine with Warne rings, one med. one high...the bolt hits the REAR bell if I want to remove the bolt. It functions fine in use though...Both scopes I use have 40mm a o front bells and sit just right over the barrel after I removed the rear irons. So, either get taller rings[Burris or CZ527 ] use a small scope or profile the bolt handle....or as I am doing , just clean with a bore snake...they do make a 16mm rail so you can go over grooves and use Weaver style rings too.Love these old BRNO's but scoping is always a pain..

Re: Brno Model 1 / CZ 452 stock inlet question

Noted. Can't be worse than the Mauser though, which has one of those flag safeties so even if you profile the bolt handle you still can't use low mounts without losing safety functionality. I have a very nice 2-7x28 mildot compact scope that I intend to use, and a selection of mounts acquired while trying to scope the mauser so I'm sure I'll find some combination that works. I'm also wondering about changing the Brno safety to "forward-to-fire". Any comment on this?

Re: Brno Model 1 / CZ 452 stock inlet question

The safeties on the ones that I have are a lever at the end of the bolt...straight even with the bore is fire and thumbed to the bolt side is safe..all of the Brno's I've seen are like this...even the chinese copies,JW-15, NS 522 ect...I have never heard of changing the saftey. Considering most of these rifles are 50 plus yrs. old, I personally would not mess with it...not many parts avaiable, at least in the U.S.

Re: Brno Model 1 / CZ 452 stock inlet question

To me it feels more natural to push a safety forward before firing (I'm originally a shotgunner), but as you well know, the Brno's & CZ's one "pulls back" to inline with the bore as you say. I believe there is a conversion for the CZ 452 and having had a (admittedly superficial) look at the original safety on a 452, it looks like it would be a question of making a new thumb lever and swapping that with the old one. I haven't yet had the opportunity to strip one to see if there is anythin else involved and just wondering if you or anyone else has done so.
