Broken SAKO TRG22 Bolt Release Pin UPDATE

Re: Broken SAKO TRG22 Bolt Release Pin (updated pics)

Made a make-shift pin out of a 3/32 drill bit shank. Cut to length and used the other slot head piece of the Sako pin to secure it in place. (As FUDwacked has done above) Works well enough.

Will have to do until the replacement pins come in from Brownells.

They basically told me the same: I would have to get the pin from their authorized parts distributors which is Brownells and Midwest Gun Works.

I placed the order through Brownells for the pin Stock# 913-400-100. I purchased 2 on backorder... hopefully it doesn't take too long. it is not threaded nor does it have a slotted end...just a solid plain ole' pin.

I for one would be more than willing to buy KRG (Massoud)'s bolt stop if it were made. </div></div>

ok...been busy, but am finally getting around to return what i got to brownells.

like i said, there is the bolt stop, a stainless colored rod,a nd a little spring in the package. the stainless rod is about 10% smaller than the hole in the bolt stop, so it wobbles around in the when poked through. its about an inch long.

what i ordered is brownells part number:
913-400-500 or beretta part number s5740256

http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=0/sid=904/schematicsdetail/TRG-22-42

is this the wrong part i need? i wanted more than just the pin...i wanted the whole assemble in case the pin broke on a trip and i need the whole assembly.

ps im not seeing the part number for just the pin on brownells page.

It sounds like you got the pin that the Tikka T3 uses for its bolt stop, just a plain dowel pin. The TRG ones I've seen have a threaded end, as mentioned earlier. But if it works, great.

I ordered brownells part # 913-400-100 "sako M995 trg bolt release pin".

Its for the old trg/trg-s I believe. Its still on backorder.

The drill bit is holding up for now.

Its a possibility that sako put some play in the bolt stop so the stop pin doesnt take all the force and some of it is transfered to the reciever??? Idk. Install it and see if it works.

this is confusing. the brownells part number is the s5740256 which is the trg phosphatized kit. i just looked the part number up in my trg factory manual and it has the same part number.

brownells has the part number for the m995 trg as 913-400-080 with a sako number as s5740255

now, in the sako manual it has the s5740255 part as the trg kit without the phospatized finish...and this is strait out of the factory trg manual.

confusing as hell???

youre right...they may supply the kits with a strait pin that is held captive by the chassis due to some breakage issues.

im gonna send that part back to brownells for a refund so i dont want to open it.

im gonna see if a smith would be interested in opening up the holes a little if there is room, installing a larger pin, and then holding it in place with a threaded plug. that seems like it would do the trick.

i have the 22 model and you have to kinda cycle the bolt hard to make it eject properly, so i dont want to be out on a trip and have the damn thing break.

Re: Broken SAKO TRG22 Bolt Release Pin UPDATE

You Guys shouldn't have to cobble together parts for your rifles, especially rifles of this "caliber". I had just gotten rid of a Steyr SSG 04 because I could't get extra mags for it (and the fore end was very flexy), and I was set to pull the trigger on a TRG until I read this crap. If these companies want my money, they're going to have to offer parts support at least. I wound up with a FN SPR A5M that doesn't come with these headaches. Anyone @ Sako or Steyr listening?

Re: Broken SAKO TRG22 Bolt Release Pin UPDATE

Its not a headache for me. My TRG42 is up and running.

Yes the bolt release pin broke and I shook my head, said to myself "what a POS", laughed and life goes on. I rigged up a makeshift pin and it works fine.

The replacement pins are on backorder, when they come in they come in.

The FN spr is a great platform, but personally I would buy another TRG22 over the FN if I had the choice. Nothing but personal preferance.

Believe me I wish Beretta/Sako parts support were better but it isnt so too bad for me.

Re: Broken SAKO TRG22 Bolt Release Pin UPDATE

Did we ever get this ironed out? I know that Brownells offers the entire phosphate kit for over 70 bucks, which is overkill if your goal is to replace a simple little pin. I have not tried the other Brownells pin but have heard it is for the OLD style Sako / m995 trg as 913-400-080 with a sako number as s5740255. (NOT THREADED PIN UNLIKE TRG-22 & 42 Bolt Release PIN)

The CORRECT threaded stand alone replacement pins must be out there because Beretta support sent me 2 in a little baggy (not the entire phosphate assembly, just the threaded pins). The question becomes, is there a valid P/N and source that we can purchase them from! I have asked Beretta USA twice for the correct P/N and gotten no answer. I tend to expect this pin to bend severely / shear around every 1500 rounds of rugged match use.
