I need an edumacation on these. My dad has one from the early 90's. I know nothing about them. Are certain ones sought after? Reliable? Valuable? I am going to do a little research on Google, but I figured I'd post here 1st.

Thanks in advance

Eddie

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

Go over to www.1911forum.com and look at the BHP forum there and then follow the links from there to Stephen Camp's hi-power site and you should have all of the resources that you need.

It was reliable with 124 grain fmj, 13 round magazines carried in condition one.

I never lost any sleep with it.

Kept a few "dogs from hunting" with it as well.

Great sidearm.

You just have to train with it a bit differently than you would a glock, sig etc.

Just like a 1911 except for the magazine disconnect. </div></div>

What service might that be...and when? I'm honestly curious...<grin>

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

In my day when someone carried an HP and you asked them what they did, they usually told you they sold "whole life and term life insurance...would you like to hear more about our products...?" and before you ask...that was when I was in the "Peace Corps..." The HP was the first auto I carried and I always felt the grips were too fat. Its a great gun though and when it comes to value the older Belgian models with the tangent sights and the shoulder stock slot seem to be the most sought after...

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

Not to pimp other sites, but these are about the best BHP resources around -

http://forums.1911forum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15

http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/

Generally speaking BHPs hold their value well as do the clones.

Keep it, pull the mag disconnect safety, put some better (bigger) sites on it and shoot it.

Good luck

ETA to add - Hi Power's aren't very durable (compared to a well built 1911 or a Glock). If this is a high round count gun I would serious be looking for cracks.

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

Unbeknownst to me apparently this shit started on another thread...and it came over here and sort of surprised some of us...so I say this to everyone involved: I wasn't there when it started and I'm not getting in it now and my apologies to all involved...

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

...and this was a nice informational thread about the Browning hi-power....

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

I already tried that with Arcangel, he posted my PM.

but thanks riverguide. You are good to go.

Its just amazing to me how a guy gets a few combat hours in the sandbox and thinks he is an expert on death.

hell, half these guys would have to look up what a wet boy is.

In my time there were no reporters, internet, just the work.

A lot of kids who watched "shooter" and spent 1 year in the sandbox thinking their "experts" imo.

I just find it amusing at this point.

Most of the guys wouldnt even be on this site if it wasnt "tacticool"

I will continue to enjoy the rhetoric of the uninformed who think the US Military comes in a neat little box labeled "good and bad".

Fuckin Sheeple

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

Wow, I didn't know a thread about Browning Hi Power would come to a shouting match of who has a bigger dick!!!!!!!!!!!!

Eddie

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

Anyways...........back to the subject!

I owned one for years but always hated the extra muzzle flip and trigger system.I had the barrel and slide EDM'ed with ports which took care of the muzzle flip. The pistol was reliable though and a good all around size with a comfortable grip.

I sure would like to see a production version with a heavy dust cover and slide like the STI/SVI type pistols and improved trigger geometry.

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

TANS. You can find several good threads on the BHP here and on the other websites listed. Most people that use them love them. Easy to carry and conceal. Great fit for the hand. Early models in excellent condition demand a premium. My 2 cents.

If you want to really learn about square dancin'------->THIS GUY.

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

Wow some of you are insane !

You post on here bashing each other and taking sides like children.

How do any of you know who has and has not been in the service.

Some of us come to this site to enjoy reading useful information.. with out having to sift through who has a bigger dick.

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

I believe the ones from the 80s were made in Belgium by Fabrique Nationale Herstal.

Do a google search there is a ton of good info to be hand on these great guns.

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

If you have a Belgian model its worth significantly more than the south american and american models,,,they made the BDM for a short period but it was american made and doesn't have much of a following or value although I have one and like it...FYI the HP was the first gun chosen by the FBI SRT as a sidearm before they switched to the Les Baer 1911 and then to the Springfield TRP Professional which they use now.

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

Dunno bout all the drama, but there are a few BHP's floating around the house.

I grew up with them and 1911's, but truthfully I feel a tuned CZ75 SA is a better gun - no bullshit.

Re: Browning Hi Power 9mm

I only break out my BHP during a cat fight.
