I saw a thread here on this forum about 9mm's. http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3077113#Post3077113

It got me thinking about all the different handguns I've owned over the years and the things I liked/disliked about each. There's a bunch of them I have not owned but shot on different occasions. It was easy for me to make a decision immediately whether I liked them or not based on things like ergos, weight, muzzle flip, bore height axis above web of hand, trigger characteristics-weight, etc.

I must admit I'm coming from a IPSC style gamers point of view rather than any other type of pistol shooting so I'm not looking at modding a BHP for self defence because it would do fine for that in it's original form.

I owned a Browning Hi Power for 3-4 years and there were a long list of things I liked about it. It was reliable and to me had the best feel in the hand of any handgun out there. I actually did a bunch of winning with that pistol in our local combat pistol matches but there were a few things I disliked about it so I sold it.

These were.

1. It had excessive muzzle flip because the front of the pistol is light and rear of the pistol heavy.

2. The trigger always had that creepy feel from the slide to frame fit being a little loose and it had a pretty long reset plus being a bit heavy for a game pistol.

I know most of the trigger issues can be taken care of except for getting the trigger weight down to 1.5-2 lbs.

What I always wanted was a BHP with a long slide and a long heavy dust cover to give some weight on the front of the pistol as well as a benefiting from a longer sight radius.

Anybody ever envisioned this or heard of someone building a custom BHP like I described?

Got any links about someone doing a similar project before?

Thanks

Re: Browning HP mods or hybrid ?

I have a HP tuned by Novaks . It has the Spec Ops package , with matting and beavertail , coated with Birdsong's Black - T finish . Sorry , not a picture person . I had a Federal Ordnance threaded-barrel with the compensator , but I wasn't real impressed with it . It worked - I just didn't see a personal advantage , so I sold it ... I saw a long-slide conversion 30 years ago , with the Novak competition rear sight - it extends beyond the rear of the slide ... I've also seen extended barrels with contoured muzzle-weights . Bar-Sto makes custom length barrels ... Kurt Wickman worked on mine . Last I heard , he was in Ohio ...

I had some low Novak adjustable sights on my P-15. They are still my favorite. I wouldn't mind having them build a HP for me. They had my pistol back in a week. I'm still impressed by that.

Thanks for commenting. Must be a hot looking HP you have.

I spent some time on google and found one long slide HP.

I'd like mine a inch shorter than the one in the video made as a limited category steel gun but with a matching heavy dust cover similar to my other favorite pistol which is a STI Edge 2011.

I saw some pics of the barrel weight versions. The idea doesn't turn my crank.
