To improve my check weld I have been searching for some time for a low rise quick detach 34mm scope mount for a Premier Heritage 3 - 15 x 50 Gen II scope I have mounted on a Noveske gun. I am currently using an American Defense Manufacturing AD-Recon Scope Mount that with 34mm rings that has a scope height of a bit more that 1.50 (38.1mm) inches. I would like to lower the scope to between 1.0 and 1.1 inches (25.4 - 28.0mm). I have some hope that a Spuhr mount maybe exactly what I am looking for, but when Spuhr will release them, and if they will meet my needs is uncertain. Until then, as an alternative to lowering the scope, I have been raising the check piece on a Magpul PRS stock I am currently using by about .4 to .5 inches (10 - 13mm). This has improved matters, but I am a nose to charging handle shooter, and I would prefer a check weld that starts at the beginning of the stock. Something with the ergonomics for example of Magpul UBR stock. Recently, I came across a Brugger & Thomet 34mm QD scope mount with a Simrad interface and a scope height of 31.1mm (1.2 inches). http://www.brugger-thomet.ch/en/manufacturing/mountingsystems/opticalrings.php?pid=593. This is a bit higher than what I am looking for but it should work.

My only experience with B&T is with fitting one of their suppressors to a Glock 17. I would appreciate any thoughts, impressions, experiences, etc. of Hide members on this idea.

Thank you in advance for all your assistance.

Re: Brugger & Thomet 34mm QD Scope Mount

How far do you have the scope mounted forward on the rifle? I understand that nose to charging handle might be the way they teach you how to shoot a CARBINE, but for a precision rifle, most of the time, the ocular bell of the scope is barely past the end of the upper receiver. Hence why the PRS is adjustable.

Re: Brugger & Thomet 34mm QD Scope Mount

The gun is now with a friend so I am answering this from memory, but to the best of my recollection, the ocular end of the scope is 1.0 to 1.5 inches past the charging handle end of the rail. The scope is about 14 inches long so it extends well past the upper recover. The reason I shot this is comfort and eye relief. This is the position that I naturally and most consistency return to, that I find the moat comfortable, and form which I achieve proper eye relief at all powers

I believe to only way you will get the scope that far forward with that mount will be to run it extended out onto a pic rail on the forend, which is not optimal.

You really need an extended front ring location on the mount.

Re: Brugger & Thomet 34mm QD Scope Mount

Hi

I am currently making first batch of mounts.
I have one model that is 28mm High and 6Mils/20,6 MOA tilt.
Will also make a 0 Mil tilt.
(Yes all mounts will be marked with the tilt in both mils and moa, as to mostly people that run their scopes in mils, there is no reason to have the mount in moa.)
Those should be finnished later in May.
But they will not be QD.

I am thinking about a QD solution.
But it's not that easy as we don't want any levers onr right side of the gun, and I don't want them on the left side of the gun as that is stealing my interface surfaces.
So I am trying to come up with something smart.

I am using QD mounts on my huntingrifles, Clawmounts and some swingmounts. But I belive for the one that wants to be really 100% sure on his sniping rifle, he should go for non detachable mounts.

Re: Brugger & Thomet 34mm QD Scope Mount

Gentlemen,
Unless the mounts turn out to be vastly different from their preproduction prototypes I will likely be stocking and recommending SPUHR Mounts in the very near future for my customers. I have a Sako TRG 22 Dovetail on order for this very purpose. I hope to have hands on qualified input on the system shortly. As has been my policy I will only sell the mount with a scope purchase...fwiw

I have never recommended a mount other than the AIAW mounts for customers going with AW Systems and Badger 34mm Rings for those using a rail. Up until know I have yet to see any reason to question those iron clad recommendations. Time on the range shall tell.

I will say I have spoken with Hakan at length and found him to be a very sharp stick. It is extremely rare for me to alter recommendations. We shall see...

Re: Brugger & Thomet 34mm QD Scope Mount

Håkan,

I tend to use QD mounts on gas guns and non –detachable mounts on bolt guns. I have never examined this bias before. I imagine that at some level this bias relates to a preconceived notion on my part that bolt guns are “more accurate” than gas guns. The truth is that the accuracy of all of my guns exceeds the skill of the operator, me. That said I certainly see the merits of using a non –detachable mount on a precision sniping rifle. Beyond all this intellectualizing, however, I find your designs and approach so innovative and interesting that I simply want to try one of your mounts. If it is to be a non –detachable mount that will be fine.
