I have decided to build/buy a new 308....I have come to the crossroads of buying action, barrel, stock etc or buy a Les Baer bolt gun. I expect spending around $3500 (less rings and scope) either way. The good of building I have the satisfaction of getting exactly what I want and I can buy my stuff $1000~ at a time, benefits of the Baer guaranteed 1/2moa with match ammo and I think it will retain more value if I ever want to sell it......Thoughts?

If you have one of the reputable smiths here build your gun not only will you have the satisfaction of having something built for you, it will be AT LEAST as accurate as a Les Baer if not more so and will retain a greater resale value (IMO). Let LB stick to pistols, let a rifle smith build you a rifle.

I second what Mike said. Check with GA Precision, APA, Accurate Ordnance, Surgeon, LA Precision, Accuracy International. There is a reason why the top shooters in the country use these guys to build their rifles. You won't be disappointed with any of them.

I would build one or buy a high end rifle like an AI or TRG. Those LB rifles are about $1000 overpriced. A $3500 "custom" rifle shouldn't have a $400 B&C stock.

Right here is your best answer. LB uses a BC stock in that build. For about the same money, you'll get a way better stock in choice of style, and color. Same for barrel, trigger, and action.

I chose to gom the 5R route and upgrade as funds permit. Will cost more in the long run, but it was very accurate out of the box and allows me to strecth out the work.

Research and buy your components then find a qualified smith to put it together. If you use a chassis system you just need a barreled action.
