I've come into owning a 1970's vintage Remington 40-XB Rangemaster Repaeter in 7.62x51mm (Match) with a 27.25" stainless 1:12" barrel and all the associated metal accessories for iron sights. The stock on it now is a cut down 40-XC stock (not my doing).
I'm contemplating several build options but I wanted to hear from the board as to what is new or awesome that I had not considered.
The Marine in me wants to build a M40A1 type rifle and leave it at that. I'm not super picky about the "authenticity" of a gun that was never built by Quantico in the firstplace, just more of the idea that I am following that basic pattern. Obviously any deriviative M40 types would be good too.
The NRA high power shooter in me wants to slap the barreled action in a tube-stock (already got one from Eliseo in the works) and have a back up for XTC shooting. Maybe do some chamber work too to clean things up (I've got a reamer I like on hand).
The purist in me wants to find a good peice of wood and put things back to right.
I could see spending $1000-2000--gunsmithing included.
Any good suggestions?
