So, I decided to sell my F-class AR-15 a few months ago to fund an LR308 project of the same level. So far I've assembled my lower using a DPMS LR308 receiver, Timney 3lb trigger, PRS stock.

The big part is the barrel, for me. I wanted to get some input on this for some experienced builders. I believe I've settled on a custom Lothar-Walther 26" 1:10 stainless barrel. I know I've seen some talking about black hole weapontry, and a few people like Krieger, but LW seem to be able to deliver in a reasonable time, and from what I can read offer probably the best barrel for the money. Does anyone here shoot a custom LW LR308 barrel or know anyone that does? LW will also match a bolt and true it to the barrel. My goal is a reasonably acceptable shooter for F-class on occasion, but primarily for long range hunting.

I'll be shooting this with my suppressor, so I'm having it threaded for a TOMB for my SAS Arbiter. Also, I'll be using it for hunting pigs at night, with a laser illuminator and PVS-14. Does anyone offer a higher quality/accurate barrel for the LR308 besides LW, should I be looking anywhere else?

I can't comment on the LW, but I would recommend taking a look at Lilja. I was able to get a 24" 1:10 stainless and threaded within a week. This was less than a month ago. It shoots exceptionally well as done a .260 barrel I have from Lilja.

Pyrex,

The poster below made a solid recommendation. However, since you want to shoot F-class, particularly F/TR, I say go with the longest barrel you can get...24" barrels are on the short side...just look at what everyone runs...30"-32" barrels.

I too am building an F/TR rifle on a DPMS LR-308 platform. I went with a custom barrel from Brux. It is a 30", 1:10 twist, stainless barrel. It took 3months to be delivered at a cost of $480.

Although I went with Brux, any top end barrel manf can deliver the same thing...if you are willing to wait.

Let me get this straight:

1) Brux blank
2) DPMS barrel extension
3) all the machine time and labor to stick items 1 & 2 together (hopefully spaced with the bolt)

All shipped to your front door for $480, just like pizza?

Well...
You can spend $500 on a barrel if you want to.
Just got back from the range, and a brand new DPMS LR-308, 24" SS Bull Barrel shot 3/4 minute with 175 SMK's over 43.5 of Varget.
And that's with the crappy stock trigger, and only a few rounds down the tube...
