Alright i came across a killer deal on a Savage 110 270Win. Well im pretty sure im putting it in a McMillan A4, with a Leupy, and that's all I've got. I don't have a clue where to get a good barrel, i know i want to keep around 20"-24". And can i do it myself?

Blake.

Re: Building a new Savage! HELP!

Devin with Sin Arms is better to deal with. He sources is own "Sin Arms" brand, Brux, or Rock Creek barrels.

I've had him build a couple barrels for me. His work is top notch and is easy to get a hold of.

You can find him on savageshooters.com

Another one is Benchmark Barrels. They are making me a .284 Win barrel for my new F-class gun built around a Savage target action worked on by Sharpshooter. Shilen is also well known for Savage drop-in barrels. Sharpshooter does great work but be prepared to wait (to be honest, it depends, on one hand I ordered a new stock for an existing gun in February and it was only finished in early July; on the other hand I ordered a timed and trued target action from them in mid-July, and it is just waiting for me to send in my FFL information).

Re: Building a new Savage! HELP!

I had Hart put one of their tubes on mine. I'm not sure how long it took them to do the work as I was deployed at the time, but I know it was around Thanksgiving time when I sent the word out to the parents to ship it out and it was waiting for me when I came home on leave late April.

Just curious on the wait time on the Benchmarks. I`ve heard nothing but good on them.

I ordered in May. I was out of the country for three weeks in July/August and let them know (so that an expensive barrel wouldn't be sitting at my door for days or weeks). I come back and got a call from them, they are just waiting for me to send them a dummy round so they can throat it. Excluding MY delay, it's been about 10 weeks. If think if you don't have special requests like I did, you can get your barrel a lot quicker.

Dont forget to spend a few extra bucks and get a good recoil lug.
Sharpshooter supply,Northland shooting supply, holland precision all make a nice one.
