ruger lcr: my wife doesnt like shooting it because of the light weight it has a bit too much recoil for her so i got a offer from someone to make some reduced loads but low and behold one of the rounds he forgot to put any powder in it anyways the bullet is about 1/4" from the muzzle and it is a 125gr lead flat nose i dont know the best way to get it out so i wanted to inquire here before i do anything

Re: bullet stuck in barrel need help

DON'T use your $35 Tipton Carbon Fiber rod to get the bullet out.

That would be a mistake - take it from me.

Two ways to go:

1. Try a dowel. Purchase a sub-caliber sized dowel and tap from the chamber end.

2. If the above fails, purchase a military cleaning rod and use a jag. Just pop it with a dead-blow hammer and I think you will be successful.

Report back here as you your success. :)

Re: bullet stuck in barrel need help

When I first started to reload, I made up 50 38 special cartridges with 3.25gr solo 1000... They squibbed in my 6" barrel model 66... I was surprised how easily they pushed right out.

Re: bullet stuck in barrel need help

that was my least favorite thing i have ever had to do to a gun period it did work though once the bullet started moving it punched right out thanks for the help guys i will post the pics up on here in a bit

Re: bullet stuck in barrel need help

If all else fails, stick the barrel in the freezer then try to bump it out with a cleaning rod or dowel. The copper/lead will shrink more than steel.

Re: bullet stuck in barrel need help

I have had it happen very rarely but drill rod from machine shop equipment supplier can be had just a few thou smaller than any more. On one end I chuck in lathe and use a center drill on it.
Chances are you have pointed bullet and this will allow the bullet nose some place to go if you are tapping from muzzle.

On the other end it is turned flat. Use a rawhide mallet to tap on end or worst case brass hammer or lead so as not to deform your rod.

Re: bullet stuck in barrel need help

spray break free or other lube down barrel from muzzle. Then put brass rod down muzzle you can sand off the shape edges of rod end if that makes you feel better and then when you feel bullet tip tap lightly with hammer and should come right out. No problem and no damage.

I had that happen about 30 years ago with a 223. Ever since I carry a brass rod in car and every once in a while someone at the range has this problem and brass rod takes care of it without incident.

This only applies if the rod/dowel is small enough to get wedged between the ogive and the bore. With a pointy bullet, a center drilled dowel solves the problem as well, as the meplat will register into the drill hole, and keep the rod centered, and NOT getting wedged against the bore.

I hope people understand the "kidding" part of the "shoot it out" suggestion.
