Buy online or from a local store?

So 2 questions here. What other sites sell new rifles besides gunbroker.com that is reliable/good pricing?

And could anyone list some pros/cons about buying from a local store versus an online venue?

As of right now, with the average price of a 700 sps varmint .308 left hand, plus tax plus a $50 FLL transfer fee ends up being $20 cheaper than my local gun store. I feel like supporting the local, but if I can find something considerably cheaper, that would help about quite a bit.

Re: Buy online or from a local store?

Unless I can save about 100 bucks, I buy local. I have had issues in the past where I saved 50 bucks or so then had to send it back, pay shipping, blah, blah, blah, so it really saved me no money in the end. That and I like my local shop. I do buy lots of accessories online because of a greater selection to choose from.

The 20 bucks you are talking about saving would not be enough for me personally to buy online.

Keep the local gun shop in business, they will thank you for it. $20.00 you forgot shipping. Buy it online how do return it if you have problem? Local gun shops at times will try to make it right.

I buy everything online. The local stores here suck! I only get small odds and end locally. Not only are the local stores expensive, their customer service sucks too.

Buy local if the money is that close. In NC we have to factor-in sales tax (8%) vs. shipping and transfer fees for online sales. The 20$ you spend with your local man may pay back in spades when you want that person/store to do a transfer for you down the road.

local is definately the way to go as long as its not way overpriced. depending on how small it is the owner might hook you up eventually after you start spendin money there regularly.

If get to know the local guy and support him. When the time comes that you just have to have that firearm he can not get, chances are good, there my not be a FFL fee on your end...

I try to support the one gun shop/gunsmith that I go to. However, they don't carry Sig Sauer so I will order what I want online. I do have the shop I support do the FFL transfer and they charge a fee. I order ammo online too.

Get to know your local store & support them. They will support you when you need it most. Saving a few bucks even 20% will hurt you in the long run.

I've been dealing with my local store for over 16 years & can't say enough about their wonderful service & prices. They don't gouge people for anything even when the AR prices went crazy everywhere else they sold at regular prices. When you couldn't get primers anywhere, they supported their customers & sold at regular prices. W/O their support i would have stopped shooting during the primer/powder shortage due to lack of components.

Hey ya I definitely see the support for the local store. I will most likely buy from them.

Also, I called up a gunsmith(works out of the garage but everyone recommended him) and he said he could get it to me out the door for $545 and everyone else is saying out the door $660. Is he not doing something legit? Or whats going on with that?
