A guy with 2 posts want's $50 for a take-off barrel., An average price. He only has two posts.

How would you go about this without insulting the guy?

Ive been jammed before, still hurts, but I hate to be a prick.

It is like gambling. If you can afford to lose $50 than go for it. If you can not afford to lose $50 than pass it by. Simple as that.
If you like I will buy it for you and you can pay me $75 plus the shipping and I will take the risk for you.

Re: Buying stuff from low post no feedback member?

The first thing I look for before I buy is post count. It is not a final decision maker, but it is a big one. Ask him if he has a high post count on any other forum?? If so then go there and check him out. Personally when I see an unbelievable deal from a guy with a low post count, I just pass it over. I may miss a once in a lifetime deal, but I will would rather loose that deal, than get beat.

Ask for references. Certainly no one would have a problem with giving references.

I have only been beat twice on the web. And both people that beat me were certified gun smiths. So it has been the professionals that have got me. And those are suppose to be the guys you can trust?? Tom.

Thanks to to all that had constructive advice, may the rest of you smartasses suffer a fate of surprise incontinence.

The seller is a man of few words in our PM exchanges. His price is average, and he is not in a hurry for anything. I can't afford to lose $50, but my gut tells me he is legit.

Thanks again

Joel

Re: Buying stuff from low post no feedback member?

Some of you don't seem to understand how buy/sell works. As the buyer, I send my money to the seller. There is no risk on his part, seeing as how he doesn't have to send anything until he has cash in hand. So why would my post count matter at all? I came here to find a barrel, as luck would have it, the guy with the best barrel has no established record here in your fine forum.

I can also easily verify my integrity as a buyer with an ebay account, paypal account, links to accounts on other forums where I am well established.

I only wanted a little help/advice as to how to maybe protect myself. What is so funny about that?

Re: Buying stuff from low post no feedback member?

Just but it . Send him a MO certified and have it so that he has to sign for it ..........that way you have proof he got it . No big deal as everyone can't start out with 1,500 posts .

Re: Buying stuff from low post no feedback member?

JB,you kinda answered you own question here, its a risk anytime you make a purchase via internet between buyer and sellerand that risk is because of price. If the price is average then its not a deal worth risking to me.As you stated post count can help but its no guarantee. If your money for the price of the item is that important then dont do the deal. You can try using a Postal money order as a little Insurance for the transaction.I have done hundreds of deals via this site and others and I never had any issues with Hide members, but again thats No guarantee.
As for the Smartasses let me be the first to rewelcome you to the Hide.

Re: Buying stuff from low post no feedback member?

Interesting update, things got interesting after a few PM's, seller admitted to knowing very little about gun barrels or how to tell of condition, quit responding when I asked for pics.

The acronym "LOL" is used way to much and seldom do I actually laugh out loud when reading stuff on this or any forum. That one got me.
