I think we may see a regression to what the Corps was, a Naval Infantry who fights on shore up to X miles in.
It makes sense.
There is alot of redundant capabilities and systems that quite frankly, the Army is better suited to handle from a doctrine and economics standpoint.
The Marines always cried they get fucked on funding and then the GWOT happened. The Marines got EVERYTHING they asked for. Hell they got better equipment than the Army in most cases.
They got their wiz bang MV22, They got way better TA50/Duece gear including new modern Body armor, Helmets, packs, ect way before the army, They all go optics on their weapons, They got the F35B, They were able to get expensive HK rifles, They got massively expensive upgraded Cobras, UH-1's & 53's. They got MRAPS before any of us did. Due to their size the costs of all these were astronomical for the low numbers purchased.
They are getting rid of tanks, Next they need to get rid of the LAVs, get a real replacement for the AAV and go back to what they do best. Naval Assaults, raids and defense of Naval Assets.
