They had that in National Socialist Germany... was a great way to confiscate the wealth of millions, and make it unaffordable for the ones the Nazis wanted to exterminate to resettle outside Germany. Financed the party in a huge way!

Socialism never forgets a good trick.

Fortunately, in the US, it will be found unconstitutional. But they will try!

Sirhr

Think that’s bad? On top of capital gains tax, Trudeau wants to tax me on my equity of my primary residence.

Rich idiots are the ones who push the Democrat / SJW / Communist agenda.

So let them deal with the horror they created and not come infect other states.

It will be ruled unconstitutional at the first go and you know the rich will have enough money to fight and win.

People that live in that state lie to themselves, while inch by inch everything is taken from them.

Not personally being a millionaire I think that tax rate is way too low.

Make them stay, they are responsible for the mess they created, hell make them ALL stay and fix it.

New shelter in place order for Californians.

Something also to consider, is that this is a whole new front in the war on anyone who has money.

This is NOT an income tax!

That is a very important point and why it is such a hugely dangerous gambit.

This is a Tax on what you own, your net worth, even if you didn't make any money that year, even if you lost your shirt that year.
Some of the more evil socialist countries in Europe already have this.

You can be sure if this gets anywhere close to passing, all the wealthy folks will have everything not already owned by tax haven trusts stuck there really quickly.

This is the opening gambit for what they hope to roll out across the country.
We steal your money right out of your pocket regardless of "income." We want it, you have it, we take it.

Coming to all America very soon if the Democrats Communists get their way.

A large amount of them will claim residency in states without income tax anyway.
That is the most retarded thing I have heard this month.
Because they legally will reside in a state outside of California that has no income tax, (as @W54/XM-388 says this isn't an income tax, but a wealth tax) It is perfectly acceptable that California should get "their" cut. FUCK THAT!!!
If the person still has property in California they will still be responsible for property taxes on that. This proposed tax is not a property tax nor a income tax. This is a fucked up beyond all normal thought process tax.

Put a wall up around cali, cut off all outside water, food and goods deliveries and let em live in their utopia. I don’t even want to hear the media from over there. Sickening. I am from there and cannot stand that shithole.

You’d think our govt scientists would have fixed the damn weather machine by now so that the earthquakes do what they were actually designed to do... detach that state from the rest of the country.

Please?
If it’s a money thing - I would pitch in a few bucks to help make it happen.

And then we will need a wall and a moat, and armed guard towers, and a mined no mans land, with geo stationery positioned killer laser satellites from space.

Also the “Joe Rogan and his buddies” tax

Or more bluntly; the productive people tax

Too late! Joe and company will be long gone by the time they get this tax in place (if it proves legal). Hilariously ironic quote in the last sentence of the article.

Thank you for correcting yourself on that last sentence sir!!

Did you all notice that if their wealth is over 30 Mil., they were only taxed at 0.4%, while anyone only worth 1-2 Mil, were taxed at 1.0%?? Do we see a trend here? Mac:rolleyes:

I always thought that when the wall got to the Arizona California line, they should’ve turned that fucker straight north to Canada!

Just one more reason to deal in the "Subterranean Economy"..... AKA the Black Market. There is a black market in CA for anything and everything...

Just watch the illegals...

I’m thinking a bunch of us ought to roll in there and start jumping up and down on the San Andreas fault

that would be a hell of a thing to try and enforce what are they going to send to collect it blm or antifa members they are defending there police and even if they pass that state law no other state in the united states would enforce an illegal law for them well maybe New York and Chicago but who in there right mind would move from California and all its craziness to any of the states controlled by democrats just to be put back into more crazy shit . Hell id almost pay California to send me socialist /communist to shoot at as target practice I could totally see that not going over for them very well in a lot of states or in court as unless you entered that state and signed an agreement like a lease when you moved in you can not be charged money for leaving that state no matter what california wants .

I think TX needs to start a collecting taxes at the Cali rate for all Cali transplants. They voted for this shit, now they're fleeing to my state to vote for this shit here. Rogan included, his podcast is entertaining, but he continues to vote blue even though he largely disagrees with the commies.

Better yet, build a wall.

Take money from everyone that earned it to give to people that don't deserve it to buy thier vote.

Genius

In 1980-82 ish I lived in the UK, USAFE. Thier government taxes were aproxamatly 2/3 of the working class weekly paycheck.

To top that off taxes on some goods were about 4 times the going US rate.

California is getting closer to this social degeneration each day.

But when people leave there they bring thier stupid ways with them.

Please stay and fix your mess.

Serious question.

You leave CA and they want extra taxes from you.

If you're a resident of another state and never plan on going back, can they come after you with anything binding?

I used to laugh my ass off at people from my workplace that would volunteer to go to California and were promised ot.

They would stay too long and then have to pay caltax. Ha ha

Been there a few times last was ? 1979 ish.

Never ever again.

my first impulse was to oppose it, but, after all, they're the ones who elected them.

How about a 50% asset tax for leaving retroactive unless you move back.

Greetings all,

Crandall v. Nevada, 73 U.S. 35 (1868), freedom of movement is a fundamental right and therefore a state cannot inhibit people from leaving the state by taxing them.

Kindest regards,

M

Very nice investigative skills!!!

(a) ...
(4) Wealth Tax Resident. Any taxpayer with extreme wealth sourced to this state according to the rule of paragraph (3) of subdivision (b).
...
(b) Special Apportionment Rules for Wealth Tax.
...
(3) Special Rule for Wealth Tax Residents.

(A) For taxpayers who were subject to the Wealth Tax in one of the preceding 10 years, and are no longer residents of this state as residence is defined in Section 50310, and do not have the reasonable expectation to return to this state, the calculation of the numerator under paragraph (1) shall be as follows. For the first year of nonresidence in California, a fraction between 0 and 1, as calculated under subdivision (b) of Section 50310, plus the years of residence in California over the nine previous years shall be the numerator. For each subsequent year, the number 1 should be subtracted until the numerator reaches 0.

(B) For any taxpayer who pays tax under this part as a former resident, but then returns to California, the apportionment rule shall be the general rule of paragraph (1) of subdivision (b).

Why stop there, why not tax residents of other states that might become residents of California, why not just tax them because they are not residents.
