Can a DPMS 243 be reamed to a 243 Ackley?

That would also require moving gas port/gas block on an LR platform.

I researched the same thing on a AR15 re 223AI,if you use search you will find the reasons why not to re-chamber an AR type barrel once the bbl extension is on and the gas port has been drilled.

Re: Can a DPMS 243 be reamed to a 243 Ackley?

You cannot correctly rechamber to an AI round without removing material off the breach. The 243 AI is not recommended in a semi auto due to the sharp shoulder angle will cause feeding issues.

150 for the reamer, plus gauges and the chance of a non functioning $300 barrel?

I was hoping to hear of actual resukts or even results of 223AI in a AR

Do A Search,it will tell you everything you need to know about this subject. As I posted already, you can not use a barrel after the bbl extension is on and the gas port is drilled, you will never get it lined up again after setting it back to ream it out.JMHO,It's your money.

Re: Can a DPMS 243 be reamed to a 243 Ackley?

So you're asking if anybody has succeeded in a modification that 3 knowlegable members have told you will result in a ruined barrel, and you want to hear from people who went ahead and did it?

Here's your chance to be the expert. Make up a new barrel chambered for the improved cartridge and report back.

Re: Can a DPMS 243 be reamed to a 243 Ackley?

I did a 243 AI in AR-10, would not recommend doing it. I've gotten it to 100% reliability but took a fair bit of putzing around to get.

I had AI chamber put in from start. If you already have 243 chamber, would be another checkmark against trying to go AI.

Well you called me and I told you it wasn't a good idea then you have posted on at least 2 different forums I have seen and most have told you isn't a good idea. it's your money, try it if thats what you want to do. I think I have 8-10 scrap barrels on the shelf and one being used as a engine hoist jack handle along with a few reamers that have been used once, we all waste money on ideas we think are good ones at the time. To think back about all of the rifles and calibers that I thought would be the one perfect rig and purchased or built then later sold in the last 30 years makes me feel stupid.
