My Dad dropped off some 7mm Mag brass that is 1979/1980 era brass that was once fired. Can brass be too old to reload?

It was stored properly in a low humidity area and looks OK. Just didn't know if brass becomes brittle or something when its old.

it can become brittle... but 79-80 isn't that old... it should be fine

IF one of the first few split a neck...anneal it

Re: Can brass be too old (age) to reload???

I have .50bmg brass from 1943. I wish I had more of it, it really is quality brass. As long as a bunch of chemicals didn't turn it funny colors and corrode the brass to a point where it is unusable/thin it should be good to go.

I was out shooting 8x56R and 8mm mauser today, ammo was made in 1937 and 1938.
It all fired no problem's.
Too bad it's corrosive primed berdan..............:(

Im using 30-06 brass from WW1 .I annealed it and works fine .

My lake city 66 match brass works fine. Wish I had more. That is nearly 50 years old.

I suppose brass may eventually dry rot but my remaining stash of surplus military .30-06 from '42-'43 hasn't shown any signs of crumbling yet.
