I am having a bugger of a time figuring out what color I want to cerakote the metal on my rifle. Checked out all the picture threads, but still unable to decide.

I want it mostly for the protective characteristics of cerakote, but cosmetics never hurt.

My set up is currently a mostly stock rem. 700 vsf .308 with a sand colored HS Precision varmit stock.

I live in the high desert.

Here's the rifle:

The three colors I am considering are: FDE, Coyote tan, and Federal Brown

Any thoughts would also be appreciated.

Re: Can't decide on cerakote color-Need pics!!!!

I'm a big fan of MultiCam type finishes for a deluxe finish. For one colors, I really like Coyote and Magpul FDE.
If there is anything in my photo galleries that you find interesting, just let me know.
Thanks,

Thanks tpowers,

do you think coyote tan will go with the stock as it sits? Or would FDE be the better option? I am diagnosed color blind and have a hard time judging colors that close by myself.

The Coyote Tan would look better IMO... it would be darker than your stock and is a nice smooth nuetral color. I believe the MagPul FDE is lighter than your stock - hard to tell in the pictures.

I think that either one would look good. Cerakote has two different types of FDE; Magpul FDE and FDE 265, and then they have Coyote. Magpul FDE is the darkest of the three, then FDE, then Coyote. The shade differences between all three is not very much.
My suggestion if you can swing it is to do the stock at the same time that you do the barreled action. I offer package deals on complete rifles that will save you $50. If you like, contact me to discuss some options and pricing that would work well for a high desert terrain.
Cheers,

Re: Can't decide on cerakote color-Need pics!!!!

If the primary purpose is for rust protection, I'd go the least cost route and get a solid Desert Tan color. I have one on my 260 Rem and it really looks sharp too. That should work well in the high desert I would think.

You will have to ask Jered the color.

Something they mixed. But it looks wicked.

ETA- I am referring to the barreled action. I had the stock painted by Dimensions (Jeromy Holmes) and Jered and crew painted the metal when they built the rifle.

Re: Can't decide on cerakote color-Need pics!!!!

You will want to do a color that is a contrast to your stock and not a match if doing a single color and your are only concerned with rust protection and looks.

LOL, nothing wrong with making something super functional, that also looks good, but to ask if your barreled action will clash with your stock is really asking for trouble.

Just spray it bro.
