Can't find a LH vertical grip stock for Savage

I've got two local dealers trying to procure a LH Savage barreled action in .22-250. Once I get it I want to have the barrel fluted and add a decent, after market vertical grip stock to the action. But I can't find it. I just called Stocky's and asked them if Bell and Carlson made the Tactical Medalist A2 in LH. She told me that they did not, but some guys buy the RH and mill out for the bolt on the left side and then fill in the relief on the right side. If this is my only option what material would I fill in the right side with?

Check out stockade stocks (www.stockadegunstocks.com). He makes fiberglass stocks for savage rifles. I got a left-hand prairie dog/tactical stock from him. The money-saver option will cost you around $200. It's simple enough to fill and sand and finish with krylon. I'm sure Manners stocks can make most any of their stocks for a lefty savage. Of course, they cost more than Stockade or Bell and Carlson.

If I recall correctly, I bought some kind of finish kit with the stock that included some mesh, abrasive sheets and a small jar of an epoxy filler (I think it was around $20). I used a popsicle stick to apply some epoxy to tiny cracks or pinholes along the seam and a few other places on the stock. Sanded it all down, cleaned with acetone, and primed and painted. Wasn't too hard. I also taped the barrel channel and inletting to avoid painting those parts.

I replaced the factory, "tupperware" stock on my 2003 lefty Savage 12 in .22-250 Rem. I've been happy with it.

Received.

I'm an Advanced Welder, Advanced Fitter, Intermediate Machinist, Intro Blacksmith, so I ain't skeered. It sounds like that's no big deal. I appreciate the help!

Thanks for the useful information. I'll be giving him a call next week. I'll let him know that I got hooked up with him via Sniper's Hide.

No, I figured it was out of my budget.

Oh, don't think I havn't looked at them, and drooled. They are about twice the price of the Bell and Carlson, which doesn't make a lefty (bastards). I know they are a much higher quality stock than the B & C, but I just can't bring myself to spend that much on a varmint rifle. It's looking like I'll be giving Stockade a call. Thanks for everyone's help.

Halligan,
Is the rifle you're getting have the AccuStock or the regular, I ask to pass on this info...I received a 10FLCP-K late last year, it groups fantastic right out to longer ranges. I recently tried out two different McMillan's but went back to the AccuStock, the accuracy and groupings were just so much better. If yours does come with the AccuStock you should try it before going right to another stock, you might be different but for me it's all about the accuracy!

Re: Can't find a LH vertical grip stock for Savage

I agree it is all about accuracy. I also have a 10FLCP-K with the Accustock and mine is very accurate as well. I'm glad to hear that the after market stocks didn't do as well as the Accustock. However; the rifle that I'm wanting to to a stock swap is a model 12 left hand .22-250 (to replace the same rifle I currently have in right hand) and the new one does not come with the Accustock. Savage hasn't started putting them on every rifle as of yet, but I bet they will soon. I thought I would be doing the right thing by getting a more ergonomically correct stock that is also aluminum bedded to squeeze more accuracy out of the rifle.

Again thanks for letting me be at ease that I don't need to replace the stock on the .308 for accuracy purposes.
