i recently purchase a 16" RRA predator pursuit. the rifle measures 34.5" long. i have been looking at pelican storm cases and can't decide which size to get. the im3100 is 36.5" long and the 3200 is 44" long on the inside. 1" of clearance on either end of the gun doesn't seem like enough to me, but 44" seems too long. however, the 44" would give me a little extra room for bipod and other accessories. what do yall think i should get? what size cases do yall have for your ARs? thanks

Re: case for new AR

Unless you will be flying with it, or it will be bouncing around in a truck bed, I would just get a soft case. The hard cases are pretty cumbersome to deal with at home and on the range.

Re: case for new AR

i have a storm 3300 for a rifle of mine and love it. i just throw it in the bed of the truck when i go anywhere. i agree its kind of large but i like the extra security and i dont have to baby it around when its in the case.

Re: case for new AR

I'd go with the 3100. The 3300 is so big it makes it a pain in the ass to use. You can still fit quite a bit of kit in the 3100. I prefer using a soft case that fits inside a hard case. You can use the soft case for quick range trips and then throw it in the hard case for flights or longer trips.

+1 ...

I posted this pic in another thread, it's probably good for sizing reference ... this is an m3100:

Re: case for new AR

I have just one hard case that I only use when flying (every month) and it's a Storm iM3300. Their specs say 50" interior. It's a pain in the butt to lug around, but the extra room comes in handy. It will hold two rifles, plus extras or my bolt gun and spotter, plus ammo. Every time I think about getting a shorter case (easier to lug around) I end up filling it up and appreciate the amount of available space.

LOL, how well does it work when all your gear is in the case and you open/close it?

Re: case for new AR

I have a Starlight case for one AR, keep it in 2 pcs and makes for a small easy to tote around hardcase. My other AR case is a Pelican and holds my 20" service rifle as a single pc just dandy with room for accessories but it's a bit longer and not so much fun to just drag to the range or where ever. Third is a Storm iM3300 and it's only for my Skunkworks long gun, what a monster to drag around but if / when traveling & flying it works great.

You have options, just do some more looking around, decide if you want to store your AR in 2 pcs to save space & weight and keep an eye out for whats on sale..

The rifles (while in the foam) fit over the top of the other gear ... all in the bottom half of the case . Take out the guns, pull out that foam piece ... and the bottom half is exposed. I pulled the upper half (with the carbines) to show how much stuff you can get into an m3100 case when travelling.

LOL

heycory- how long are those AR's? </div></div>

One has a Colt M4 Socom barrel and the other has an ABS carbon-wrapped barrel ... both are just a smidge over 16". I don't know the full length of each with the buttstocks collapsed, but each is using a standard carbine buffer tube, so the length (fully collapsed) should be equal to a standard M4-style AR.

Re: case for new AR

go with the 3220, its a little big, (it has 3 foam layers. i have one and was able to put AR, mossberg 500 and some magazines. either way they are big cases, its always good to have room to grow.

If i did it again i would probably go with the version with the same width and length but smaller height (2 layers of foam)

Re: case for new AR

I have a pelican 1750 (similar to Storm 3300) for two ARs and it has bounced around a lot of truck beds with no problems. That being said, I agree with some of the other members that unless I am flying or out of state with my guns, the trips to the local range I am always using my soft bags.
