Using a AI mag with a .308 load, What is the min clearance needed to reliable feed through my mag?
I am trying to get closer to the lands with this load, but dont want to have feed issues. Presently .040 off the lands and only have .080 clearance OAL in my mag. The 175 SMK I have seem to have a little length differences so I need a little safety margin.

Thanks

Re: Case length in Mag

The only way to do it is really take a representative sample of your 175SMK's and measure their overall length. Take the longest and use that as your baseline and load that bullet as far out as it will go without snarling up in the mag. There is no guaranteeing however that you may not come across a longer one!

I can tell you it is a pain in the backside to have them snarl up in a 10 round mag - I gave up on loading as long as possible and now stick with function and a COAL of 2.82". For me SMK's seem to like the jump and I have seen better accuracy with the shorter OAL.
