Seems a guy cruises thru a stop sign and gets pulled over by a local policeman. The guy hands the cop his driver's license, insurance verification, plus his concealed carry permit.

"Okay, Mr. Smith," the cop says, "I see your concealed carry permit. Are you carrying today?"

"Yes, I am."

"Well then, better tell me what you got."

Smith says, "Well, I got a .357 revolver in my inside coat pocket. There's a 9mm semi-auto in the glove box. And, I've got a .22 magnum derringer in my right boot."

"Okay," the cop says. "Anything else?"

"Yeah, back in the trunk, there's an AR15 and a shotgun. That's about it."

"Mr. Smith, are you on your way to or from a gun range...?"

"Nope."

"Well then, what are you afraid of...?"

"Not a damn thing..."

It is generally a state law tied to a states CCW legislation that during any contact with a LEO the CCW holder will disclose his status. But feel free to stand your ground and lose your right to carry.

Re: CCW mentality

In CO you don't have to have a CWP to carry while in your car. Your car falls under the Castle Doctrine here. You also aren't required to announce that you have a firearm at all, and with the dumb ass cops I've seen here it would probably be better if they didn't know. I've only been pulled over once and the Cop asked if I had a weapon and I said yes and then handed him my CWP. He said he'd never even seen one before. WTF?

They know in CO as well, but we are not required to disclose unless asked. The typical question asked by LEO is "Do you have any illegal weapons or drugs". The obvious answer to that question is a simple "No Sir".

While considered by many CHL instructors to be good habit forming practice; you are not required to display your CHL if you do not have your weapon on your person or within your control (reachable or readily accessible inside your vehicle).

Well, here in CO you don't have to so there is no chance of losing my right, if I don't disclose... I've heard horror stories about those who have offered the info along with their drivers licenses, i.e. over-zealous patrolmen.

Re: CCW mentality

At least in Oregon I've been told that when they run your DL # it will come back that you have a CC Permit. Better to mention it up front than to wait until they have to ask you imho.

Good joke though

Re: CCW mentality

Michigan we are required to disclose only if we are carrying. When we are not carrying it's called "common courtesy" to disclose right away to the LEO because it'll pop up when he checks our name for outstanding warrants etc etc. But cops around here don't usually even care...
