I just got my rifle back from Jeff. If anyone is considering or on the fence about getting work done by him, DO IT. The fit/finish is great, inletting was awsome...just like everyone else said it was. I know you can't believe everything you hear and only half of what you see, but you betta belee dis...he knows his stuff, and if you have any questions, just contact him. I know I've bugged him enough. It's always good to support your fellow man, and it's even better when they exceed your expectations. It's money well spent, so for the same price as a good meal and a tank of gas, you too can own one of these marvels of modern engineering.

Re: CDI Bottom Metal

+1... I have 2 sets of bottom metal from him (LA & SA) and he inletted a stock for me as well. Great product and great customer service. He always answers e-mails and returns phone calls.

Jeff at CDI does excellent work. He has done a FN SPR, Rem 700, and Howa for me. He is also a very nice guy and easy to talk to. He is also very fast on getting your stuff done and shipped back to you. I highly recommend him.

Re: CDI Bottom Metal

Is this actually available now or have you guys got pre production samples or something? I know it's not listed on the CDI website but I've also tried contacting them and not had a reply.

I'd like to order before XMas but I need to get an import permit in place first and for that I need to know who I'm buying from. Roedale is my other choice but at current exchange rates are about $100 more for the bottom metal, a 5 round and a 10 round mag

ITARS, Export restrictions, and paperwork.

Re: CDI Bottom Metal

I have one on a PBR-XP and just got one in for a Tikka 223. The Tikka is going back to him for fitting later this week, looks like more fitting than I want to try. For $60 it's worth letting him do the work.
The parts themselves look great and work flawlessly.

That only applies to some items though so Midways blanket choice not to ship anything OS is simply they can't be bothered. That's fair enough and their right. It's OK with me because I buy most of that sort of stuff from Sinclair who do ship OS and have excellent customer service. I'm just getting into reloading and have bought almost my entire set up from them, no permits required either end. Spent over $1k with them in the last month.

Guess CDI just don't want to deal with individuals but it would've been nice if they'd replied. There's one business I know of here that sells the CDI products but they don't list the Tikka bottom metal but I wouldn't buy it from them anyway as they add almost 100% markup.

I'll go with Roedale. Thaks all.

That's true but it still requires more work and paperwork to ship over seas, and Midway is a business and can't simply ship it as a "gift". Midway does ship OS to dealers just not to individuals.

Just about 100% of anything weapons or ammo related is ITARS controlled and or export restricted without the proper paperwork even as a "gift". Get caught and the shipper might have wished they hadn’t bother as well.

Even companies that ship OS still have restricted items they will not ship including Sinclar/Brownells.

There was paperwork and whatever, maybe not on your end but it was on their end and they choose to do it on certain items they are allowed to ship, but again it was their choice to go through the extra hassle for OS sales.

There is a reason these large companies have staff to handle nothing but OS sales. Keeping up with US shipping regulations is hard enough let alone keeping up with the OS sales and regulations, and then dealing with restricted items and all the extra paperwork just to ship legal stuff OS.

True, a customs declaration needs to be completed but it's all filled out online and just printed out and stuck into the plastic envelope on the box and the other half handed over when it's posted or given to the courier but I have no problem if businesses or individuals don't want to do the extra 5min of work, there's always someone who will and they end up with the business instead. As for shipping as a gift, that's pointless, at least to Australia as gifts are treated the same as any other item, ie on their commercial value so no need to do anything special. With the free trade agreement bewteen the US and Aust there's no customs duty on items made in the US that I import and no tax unless the total exceeds $1k

Of course there are some parts that require export permits or import permits (I know I need an import permit for the bottom metal and mags for example and an export permit may be required as well at the other end) and there are plenty of parts that can't be exported or imported at all.

AXEMAN, I assume Jeff is the owner of CDI? I'd try another email but there's actually no email addresses on the site at all, just the form to fill out so I don't have anything to try.

EDIT: whoops, there actually is an email address. Missed that the other day.

I'd send the stock only. Less hassle and cheaper.

Re: CDI Bottom Metal

With my PBR only the action needed work, Stock fit was fine, I did it myself. With the Tikka the action and stock need fitting so the entire rifle is going in the mail tomorrow.
