Hey guys,

Building my cerakote oven out of an older gun safe this week. I plan on using that foil faced insolation that is 7/16ths thick to insoluate the entire oven.

My question is how necessary is a fan? If I don't need one, I probably wont install one. If I need one I'm maybe thinking put a bathroom exhaust fan in the top of it.

Next question if I need a fan, do you have it pull air out, have it pull outside air in, or just leave it as a sealed system and have it circulate the air in the oven?

Curing ovens which have fans (like mine) were designed as convection ovens and have the heat elements in a seperate insulated chamber from the main oven and the fan pulls the hot air from that chamber and blows it down into the oven.

The fan is internal and run by a shaft connected to an external electric motor.

If your heting elements are in the same chamber you dont need a fan.

Re: Cerakote oven fan

The air needs to circulate witnin the oven to get the convection effect and prevent all the hot air from just rising to the top. I just used a space heater fan with the fan(steel) inside and the motor mounted outslde. Works great. Hope thls helps. Paul.

Once a small oven reaches the desired temp, say 250 degrees, then the temp within the oven is 250 and if the heat elements are in the main chamber a fan accompishes nothing.

In my larger commercial batch ovens which have the heat elements in seperate chambers then the fan pulls the heat from that chamber and circulates it in the larger oven, which is required. I have two small ovens which were designed for Cerakote work and have the heat elements in the main oven chamber and they dont have fans becuse the dont need them.

Your bolt fluting looks great Paul!!
