A little background history first:

When I first spoke with Chad about this build and its concept, the original plan was to purchase a factory AI AX handguard pictanny rail and have it matched up to a custom made scope base for the BH action. With the premise that I’ll purchase everything but the scope base first, then after Chad gets it, he’ll take measurements for height so that the scope base manufacturer can make a base with the correct height to match the pic rail. So the end result would be very similar to an AI AX.

During our conversations Chad actually suggested the possibility of having the scope base manufacturer create a full length monolithic top rail. But with the differences in mounting interface between the rail and the action, as well as the potential costs of a one off custom, the idea was quickly disregarded.

So one has to realize I was more than floored when Chad called me just a day after he had received the box full of parts and told me he pretty much on a whim completed the monolithic rail. “giddy like a school girl” can be seen as a mundane way of putting my enthusiasm after Chad’s call.

So about six days later (three at Chad’s and three on the Road) it arrived! Some of you gentleman have probably already seen part of this build in the gunsmithing section under one of Chad’s thread. Well here it is in all its glory!

So in conclusion Chad is the “chit” haha

Re: Chad Dixon AX Build

That is an awesome looking rifle! Not trying to be a smart @$$ but is that scope on sideways? Kind of looks like the wind knob is on top where the elevation should be?

Re: Chad Dixon AX Build

From playing with it, the platform is rock solid. I have not noticed any amount of flex when just picking up and holding the rifle from the handguard. That pic was taken at a slightly downward angle ie magic/optical illusion, and I assure you even I'm not that stupid

. Got it over a week ago, just with work and everything I just havent got the time unfortunately to go to the range. But definitely will when I get the chance.

Nice rifle, Chad builds some good ones, but I guess I have to ask the same thing?? In the picture where you see the left side of the rifle there is a turret, and when you see the right side of the rifle no turret???

It does seem that way.... He's possibly doing that on purpose (Windage become Elev & Elev becomes Windage) to get the knob away from the ejection port or be able to see his windage adj. Let's hope.

Also, there seems to be lots of remaining tube space, the rings seem a mite close together. Not a criticism, just an observation.

Re: Chad Dixon AX Build

I thought beny meant the scope was not leveled. yep, its pretty much as buffy says. This is a hobby so I have the luxury of doin some weird stuff to keep it fresh haha. not as much elevation but farthest range around here is 300 any ways (sucks..)

Love the rifle but here is my one complaint. It's not the scope because the Bushnell Elite fixed 10X scope is a capable scope. Those rings though, they look like weaver "tactical" rings. I may be wrong but they look like them. I understand most of the budget is in the rifle while looking at it, but.... Remember this, the rings are the place where your rig is going to fail to live up to it's potential. Those rings are it's weak point. Those rings will need to be lapped. Just splurge and buy a nice set, space them out better because on that scope if you over torque your rings, you may and will have your scope fail to track properly due to the internals "binding" do to pressure.

Surefire socom brake question
have you had the can on the gun yet?
reason I ask is ther a slight gap from were the lower part of the brake touches the barrel. was thinking of having the barrel turned down in ther some to fit the barrel up to it, or have that back park milled off
whats your take on this
great looking gun by the way
DAve

If you ever plan on using a SOCOM Surefire on their SOCOM mount you cannot and should NOT mill anything on the brake. You need to follow the blueprints to machine the barrel. If you mess with the attachment point you are certainly asking for a baffle strike.

The spacing is there to provide clearance for the rear of the supressor for proper lock up. I'd imagine if you were not going to use it with a supressor you could remove the shoulder.
