A little background history first:
When I first spoke with Chad about this build and its concept, the original plan was to purchase a factory AI AX handguard pictanny rail and have it matched up to a custom made scope base for the BH action. With the premise that I’ll purchase everything but the scope base first, then after Chad gets it, he’ll take measurements for height so that the scope base manufacturer can make a base with the correct height to match the pic rail. So the end result would be very similar to an AI AX.
During our conversations Chad actually suggested the possibility of having the scope base manufacturer create a full length monolithic top rail. But with the differences in mounting interface between the rail and the action, as well as the potential costs of a one off custom, the idea was quickly disregarded.
So one has to realize I was more than floored when Chad called me just a day after he had received the box full of parts and told me he pretty much on a whim completed the monolithic rail. “giddy like a school girl” can be seen as a mundane way of putting my enthusiasm after Chad’s call.
So about six days later (three at Chad’s and three on the Road) it arrived! Some of you gentleman have probably already seen part of this build in the gunsmithing section under one of Chad’s thread. Well here it is in all its glory!
Specs for those interested:
Big Horn TL-2 action
Bartelin barrel
Huber trigger
Surefire socom brake
So in conclusion Chad is the “chit” haha
