Chamber length gauge

Guys,
I just measured my chamber using the Sinclair Chamber Length gauge. I got 2.037" as the measurement three times. The directions say to go .024" shorter than the actual length for pressure reasons. That puts me at 2.013. the Hornady book says 2.015 max to 2.005 min. I have been trimming to 2.010.

My question is what does this information tell me, and what can I learn from it?

By the way .308 from GAP with 1995 Palma Match Chamber.

Thanks,
jack

Re: Chamber length gauge

It's telling you your chamber is 2.037". That's some 22 thou longer than the normal 2.015" SAAMI max case length.

You can learn that any length under the normal max case length is more than safe in that chamber.

Re: Chamber length gauge

Don't worry about what your books say, the gauge isn't lying, your trim length is 2.013, so after FL sizing measure OAL, if it exceeds 2.013 trim back to that.

Re: Chamber length gauge

Couldn't you let it grow longer than the 0.024 under actual? Is that .024 standard, or perhaps an aggressive margin of safety? What are most people allowing their max length of growth under actual chamber length before trimming?
