Hi all i am fairly new to long range shooting and this afternoon i was shooting my 300 RSAUM and when I changed my magnifacation from 14 to 8 my poi changed by 2 foot low. Is this normal i had thought when you sighted your rifle you did it at the highest magnifacation. If i am wrong please somebody help me I am very confused. Everyone on here is very skilled and I trust in many peoples opinion. Thanks for everyones help.

Re: Change in impact

It is not uncommon, especially with budget scopes.
That is an exceptional shift though, it usually isn't that much.

Either you need a new scope or you anticipated recoil and jerked the trigger severly.

Re: Change in impact

It is a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T 4.5 X 14 so for me it is just right. I had just put a Badger base 20 moa on it and it had never done this before. I know its not as high dollar scope as some but that is strange.

This!

1st Make sure all nutz bolts and screws are tightened and done so correctly.

2nd Strap your rifle down so that it cant move when you dial on and off the power. Dial the power on and off and see if the cross hairs stand still. If they move, your scope is broke. If they don't move you need to work on your position and recoil tolerance.

3rd, check and see if there is something in the barrel channel.

Cheers,

Doc

You are most certainly not the first that hs happened to and you will not be the last.

How do you think people know to tell you to check it?
