Checking cartridge/powder temp?

How are you guys checking your powder temp. ? Is an infrared heat gun good enough or should you have the ammo in a sealed container for a certain amount of time with a thermometer inside?

I think it's pretty common to use the infrared gun, but the thermometer method should be fine as well.
