Days are getting colder and shorter up here, and I find myself spending more and more time reading through posts, time to join the action. I'm hoping to take the plunge pretty soon on a 6.5CM, likely a Bergara. I'll try not to ask too many of the same questions that have been asked over and over again, but I'm a natural screwup, so I apologies in advance. I've got the next 6 months to start gathering my cold weather dope!

I lived up in anchorage for 5 years and don't let the cold keep you inside. The birchwood range is an awesome gun club outside eagle river with radiant heaters above the benches. I'de be out there in -20F and have the whole place to myself.

Yep, Birchwood is solid, I'm currently a member there. 300 is as long as they go out there, but that should be enough to get started playing with a long range rig. I'll have to strap on skis and find a spot further north to stretch the distance a bit.

Thanks all, looking forward to picking up a ton of knowledge here.

AKMarty, my understanding is that the Susitna range is closed for the winter, but maybe I'm wrong about that. Hopefully I don't have to wait until spring, but I can probably tie myself in knots trying to decide what gun to jump in with until then. Plenty of opportunity for analysis paralysis.
