Choate Tactical Stock ... Defected or Poor Design?

I recently ordered a Choate Tactical stock for a Savage 10. Upon reassembling everything onto the new stock I noticed a few details that concerned me. For one, the rear screw protrudes approximately 3/16 of an inch into the receiver therefore locking up the bolt. In addition to this problem the front of the trigger guard channel is too deep causing the trigger guard to be depressed into the stock and not be flush with the stock. I am quite positive this is the cause for the screw protrusion. So my question is has anyone else had this same problem or did I just get a reject?

Mine fit my Savage perfectly and shoots better than me without bedding. It was pure drop in for me and fit was great.

too many people think swapping components is always "plug and play". that just isnt the case many times. grind the receiver bolt down to fit. no big deal at all. then bed your bottom metal for a perfect fit. you can use jb weld. cheap and easy. problems solved. the choate tactical is a great stock.

I saw a similar issue with mine- which was for Rem 700. The front action screw wouldn't tighten up until it was in to far- locking up the bolt. Also, I had an issue with the barrel not floating. I was able to take a thin (roughly 1/16") brass washer and place it between aluminum block and action on the front action screw. Both problems solved. Then skim bed the action with the washer in place and its permanently fixed. Hope this helped!

Re: Choate Tactical Stock ... Defected or Poor Design?

I just received my Choate Tactical stock inletted for a CDI conversion. I am having similar issues, front screw is too long, and the same issue with the bedding "V's" being off somewhere.

I am awaiting a reply from the company I ordered from in case there is something I am missing. I have also sent a message to Jeff at CDI, but I don't feel it is his issue.

I ended up having to grind down the Aluminum V in the rear of the action area on the stock, and have got it much closer to where it should have been. Still having some issues, but am happy as it is for now.

Sending pictures to the manufacturer for them to diagnose.
