I am looking to get a clamp on brake put on my 7mag hunting rig. I take my nephew hunting with me and it busted his head while shooting a deer last year. It is a savage 114 with factory barrel. Not wanting to spend the extra $ of having a gun smith do some work because I plan on putting another barrel and stock on it within a few years. Is there anyone who makes clamp ons for factory rifles?

Re: Clamp on Brake

I really don't think there is such a thing and if there was, would you trust it? Spend a little and get a smith to do it right, make your nephew pay for half, haha.

Teach him how to shoot a rifle.

It will be much more rewarding than buying a new part to fix a jacked up technique.

Re: Clamp on Brake

When I was new to guns and picked up an FAL rifle I was not ready to shoot a .308 battle rifle. It kicked to hard and I couldn't hit anything. I ordered a "screw on" brake. And after 3 shots it was gone never to be found again. Since it's a Savage it would be easy to take the barrel off and send it out for a thread job and have one of HATECA's thread/clamp brakes put on. Or.. order your new barrel now and have it setup with a removeable brake from the barrel maker. What ever way you decide to go I say don't waste your money on a non-threaded brake.

Cheers,
Hawk

Re: Clamp on Brake

Clamp-on brakes do not work! Remove the barrel and have it threaded. If you need to remove it for whatever reason go with a Badger FTE or something similar that you can easily remove. The smith that threads the barrel will probably include a thread protector if you ask when you want to shoot with th brake off the rifle.
