Gentlemen and ladies,

I have a 26” proof barrel that shot the 180 ELDMs like laser beams but accuracy is getting sporadic. some days it’s super accurate 1 ragged hole then 1 MOA OR LARGER same day I tried brass neck tension even new brass but I can’t pin it down. I am left to either my chassis a KRG WHISKEY 3, which I doubt but it If it were I guess a thermal expansion thing or my barrel cleaning. I know guys go a long way before cleaning but when I clean I get significant copperas 20 rounds or so down the tube and the crown when I pull the brake has quite a bit of build up. Anyways magnums can be finicky especially the 28 Nosler but anybody have similar experiences with 7 rem mag or similar?

Well PROOF makes stainless "regular" barrel blanks in addition to their carbon wrapped ones. I've heard that sometimes the carbon barrels may not hold accuracy on longer strings of fire when they heat up. Magnums may heat up quicker so I would not shoot more than 3 before I let it cool. If you are shooting in rapid succession and the group is opening up, then this may well be the issue. In a hunting rifle its usually not much of an issue because you are usually only shooting 1 shot anyway.
