Just got my new CBI barrel on and would love to shoot today but my Dewey Rod is not here yet. I hate the thought of putting the skinny 3 piece junk cleaning rod in the new barrel. Should I do it or just wait for another day when I have the correct rod? Im gonna break it in so it would be alot of passes with a junk rod???

Wait, Wait, Wait, for the dewey! No really Wait for the correct rod! One slip of the three peice and you will be sorry for much longer than the wait on the dewey!

I guess I'm pretty ignorant, but why is an aluminum cleaning rod in a hard steel barrel such a boogey man???
You can't score steel with aluminum.
Besides, I always pull instead of push.

IMO if you have a BORE GUIDE and a cheap ass cleaning rod, you should be good to go. Yea, I wouldnt make it a full time thing that you use that POS rod, but in a pinch its better than nothing.

Do as you please. But, I was thinking more in the range of the mil. issue steel section rod when advising to wait for the proper cleaning rod.
And yes do use a bore guide.

Ive had to do this before, nothing bad happened, but i was using a bore guide and was very careful not to loosen the rod at all.

OK, I can see running a rod down the barrel once before you shoot it... But why would you do it again before at least 300-400 rounds. There's absolutely no reason to chance messing up your barrel. I don't know CBI but I assume it's a custom made barrel. If so, it should be GTG right away. Just shoot it! Clean it when accuracy starts to go away.
