I've seen any number of discussions about clip slotting R700 actions and the difference between the M40A1 and other variants, but other than "it's the way the USMC does it" is there a point of clip slotting? It's just to have your rifle to USMC spec right?

Has anyone actually taken their scope off and fed stripper clips? The rifles don't even have irons.

    Re: Clip slotting

I'm one of the ones interested in having the clip slots milled in a M700. I am only doing it because I need to use the action as a match rifle. In NRA High Power matches there are two rapid fire courses that require reloading in the middle of the string. Hope this helps.

Are you using a 700 with iron sights?

You can not use a clip slot unless you are using iron sights. Clip Slots only serve one purpose. They are for speed loading from a stripper clip.

If you are building a cross the course, nra competition rifle or just a high power iron sighted rifle, they will have a purpose.

I understand that people that build mil clones have it done too. But they cover them with the scope rail.
