I'm eyeballing the Vortex RECCE PRO HD 8x.

Is there anything out there that is a better choice ? Not looking for anything larger than the size of this particular model. Must be something that can fit in a pack without The space or weight penalty.

I used something similar in the 80's for bowhunting, if it works the same way it would converge two images as you dialed it in.
When the image became one clear image it had a dial in the view that showed the range.

I read through the instructions and it's just a ranging reticle, I would prefer to just use my scope for that or a dedicated spotting scope with a reticle.

I've got the solo rt 8x36. Clear glass. My only complaint is that it's hard to hold still to get an accurate measurement of the target. Not the fault of vortex, just something to keep in mind.

ETA. Looking at the reticle in the recce, I believe it would be more difficult to get an accurate measurement. A lot of dots in that one.
