Is anyone aware of any comps in the upper midwest (WI, MN, IL or MI)?? I live in Northern WI and have a buddy who shot at the Fort McCoy, WI shoot two years ago (it was canceled this last year) but have not heard of anything else that takes place in this part of the Midwest. Is there anyone from these states that is aware of a Spring or Summer Comp "Up North"?

Thanks in advance for you help!

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

What kind of Comps are you looking for? If it's tactical or three gun...I can't help you. I belong to a club...here in MN that has 600 and 1000 yard comps, F Class and some sillouette shoots. The clucb hosts the state 1K BR championship every year.

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

Senderofan,

Thanks for your input. We would be looking for long range comps of 500 to 1000 plus yards. Where is your club located, are their caliber restrictions, and when are the comps? Thank you for all you help.

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

The club is GRRC. It's located near Harris, MN. Here's a link to their web site: http://www.grrc.org/ In 2010, GRRC, was the site for the 1000 yard BR National championship. It's a really nice place...great bunch of guys!

The BR comps have a max caliber of .41. I need to re-check the rules...but there was a movement to allow muzzle brakes for heavy gun. The max range is 1K...and has a proper pit.

I know I've met a couple of guys at meetings that shoot 50 BMG at the range. But they can't compete in IBS sanctioned matches.

Good Luck...I hope you can make something work...so that you can shoot at GRRC...it's a great range. My only problem is that it's about 3 hours away for me...so I don't get there often.

Wayne

P.S.

They also do service rifle shoots, Black powder...and many others....the range is 340+ acres or some such large number.

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

Hello,
I'm in the Milwaukee area. Shiocton WI has a municipal range to 500 yds that's open to the public. Maybe we could set-up some sort of improv DMR match (500 seems short for a precision rifle).

The Winnequa Rifle club in Lodi goes out to 1200yds nowadays, but its members only so we would need some people on the in to invite us.

Just kicking around some ideas. The comps I read about here seem like something I want to do. I'm tired of the 200yd line at my local club.

Cheers

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

Check out www.wingunclub.org. They have a 1000 yard range and do alot of matches. I have only been there once but was a nice range. My club only has 300 yards but its 5 min from home so I deal with it.I set up just under 600 out on my farm but I nedd to build a better berm if I want to shoot it alot. If you find yourself in the oconomowoc area and looking to put some round down range send me a PM.

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

Hello Norskone,
Actually I live in Erin township so I'm 15 minutes from Oconomowoc. I have steel targets and would love to shoot with you sometime. (PM sent)

Anyone interested in a DMR match here in SE Wisconsin? Does Snipershide have any official accomplishments? A person could earn an official Snipers Hide DMR badge at a sanctioned event from a SH state representative. Rather than a winnner take all competition, I think its neat to be able to make "grade"; that is, to accomplish something a consensus of the shooting community considers remarkable.

Cheers

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

A bunch of us get together in the North Central area and shoot 500, 600 and 880 yards, one shot cold bore events as well as shooting groupers at 600 and 880 we are also in the process of putting together a tactical course.

Also a bunch of us head out to Ohio to shoot at Thunder Valley Precision a few times a year, shooting the Head Hunter and Intimidator rounds

Hide members and friends are always welcome to join us in the local events; they do have a cal. limit being the 338 Lapua Mag.

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

Joe sent you a pm.

I'm going to start shooting ipsc for the first time this year at my club. Matches are every third sunday starting in march. Cost for non club members is $10 if brought by a member if I remember right. I would be glad to have any hide members come out and shoot with me. After the pistol match there is a practical rifle/pistol two gunish match of some kind also I plan to shoot but I dont know much about how its set up.

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

Oneshot-

Im located not too far north of ya. I am lucky enough to have a buddy that has a 1000 yard and 1100 yard range "up north".

I was looking on North coast Shooters site for the details for Fort McCoy but the "match rules" link does not work, do you happen to have these?? You can send message via PM if you prefer.

Thanks

You can shoot as many different guns as you want so bring a few, but each gun can only be fired by you once per target distance. The 614 yard event is shot and completed then the 880 yard event fires up.

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

338 Lapua Mag and under
Bring as many guns as you want to shoot for the cold bore event.

Cold Bore - $10.00 per gun per event. -- 100% pay back
Range targets 614 & 880 yards a 6” orange dot with a 1” black diamond – you are able to check the distance with your LRF.
No sight ins or warm ups the day of the shoot, Cold bore - one shot for one hit - per gun/person per target. The same gun may be allowed to be shot by multiple people, but an individual can only shoot it once per distance.

Time pending after the 614 & 880 Cold Bore round, we may have a 2 man team event involving the Head Hunter target – So bring plenty of ammo.

They have a elevated bench that you shoot from, I usually spin the seat up high and shoot off of my bipod versus the bags that will be available.

This event draws folks from all walks of life; safety rules are followed and for the most part a good group to BS with.

Food and refreshments available at the site

Folks start showing up around 10:00 am and it seems to wrap up around 4:30 or so.
Registration cut off for 614 Event 1:00 PM!

I think last time there were 43 shooters at the 600 and 29 shooters at the 880

The range is a few miles south of Marshfield WI. off of Highway A in the township of Richfield – the R&R Ranch, (highway A to Richfield – at the town hall and bar turn to the west and go a mile or so the R&R Ranch is on the south side of road)

As stated earlier we will have a taste of the Thunder Valley Head hunter steel target which is a blast and possibly a grouper round at 880 when the 614 and 880 cold bore are done.

This has been the norm for quite a few years; we have a new ownership change at the shooting sports facility, and may be relocating the range and extending it out to 1000 yards on the property so this Aprils event we know we still can shoot the 614 and the 880 prior to our new range. I will update info on range as for the April shoot.

Hope to see a few Hide members

Brado16

I know there are a bunch of us that would like to shoot prone without a doubt, but until we have the fall shoot in the new location on this site implemented with the steel course we will be shooting off the bench otherwise the local folks that we are trying to introduce steel and prone shooting to will claim that there may be an advantage having both disciplines. So anyways for this spring yet it will be off an elevated bench off of bags or bipod.

The payout I can’t claim the exact payout places, never got involved in keeping tract or counting it up. All I can say is, we have a good group of folks that get together and have fun shooting for fun of it with a nice chance to bring home a little cash. Not a major tournament, but if I had to guess with a good number of shooters my memory would say they pay out ten places?

Re: Comps in the Upper Midwest??

oneshot,

No problem with not being able to shoot prone- just wanted to know before we got there.

The money is irrelevant, was just curious to how it worked.

Sounds like a great get together throwing lead down range. I am planning on coming down along with one or two other buddies from "Up North". We also plan on attending Fort McCoy come May.
