Gunsmithing Converting a .22-250 to .308

I'm looking to swap my burn't out .22-250 tube for one in a .308 but am not sure what all this will entail.

A gunsmith told me that I might need to expand the opening of the bolt-face because the .308 is probably larger. They seem pretty close to me though. Is there anything else I would need to do to the magazine or otherwise to make the change?

I have an HS Precision stock and am not too crazy about the color. Any suggestions on what to recoat this with?

I'd appreciate some info from someone who knows a little more about gunsmithing than I currently do.
Thanks

+1 on finding another smith.

I have a Turk K Kale action that is a switch barrel. I have barrels in 308, 7mm-08, and 22-250. All run the same bolt. Get a new barrel, replace the old one, and headspace it. If you search in the for sale section there is a custom builder that has 308 take offs for like $100.

Bolt face...... It is the same for 22-250 and 308.
Stock........... Krylon. If you get tired of it you can take it off. Also easy to change to another color later.
If it is a R700 Brownell's sells threaded, short chambered barrels. It would be a minor job for a "real gunsmith" to finish the job.

My .308 started out life as a 22-250 . I just had a barrel installed and nothing else done , no action truing , bolt face modification and still using the same bottom metal and follower . Seems to work fine .

Re: Converting a .22-250 to .308

This is all good news- should be cheaper than expected for once. I was hoping to find a fluted matte-black heavy barrel with the same contour as the original remmy barrel but if I can do it alot cheaper by being less specific maybe I will. I don't want to wait forever for a new barrel to be made either. As far as the stock- Aluma Hyde sounds like a good quality option but i like the idea of using the Krylon for the reasons stated plus it's an easy touch-up when i scratch the thing! Not sure how easy it would be to remove tho without damaging the original finish underneath....

.22-250 derives from .250 Savage, which derives from .300 Savage.
I believe the .300 Savage comes from Savage's desire for a hotter than .303Sav cartridce that would cycle through the M-99 lever gun, thus, they shortened a .30-06.
They all share a head diameter.
