Gunsmithing Converting WSM action

I have to admit to jumping on the bandwagon a little hard many years ago, when the short fat cartridge craze began. After about two years, I said to myself, that they would stay for awhile, especially the WSM's. Lucky guess on that part of the equation I guess, despite actually liking the case geometry better on the Rem SAUM's. I bought several rifles, a few of which I really like and never intend to convert from the WSM platform.

I have about 3 or 4 actions Sako 75's, (270,300 WSM's) that I am looking to convert to a typical short action cartridge, i.e. 260 Rm, 7-08 etc. I am looking for intel feedback about the ability/practicality of doing this.

Interested to see where this goes. I just ran into this (sorta) with my Tikka. Wanted to go to .260 from 300WM. Different bolt face. Contact the distributor (Beretta)... bolt is $400 US *AND* you have to send the rifle to them to have them install the bolt. They WILL NOT SELL A BOLT unless you do this. Thought about contacting PTG to see about getting a bolt body made, but just ended up making a deal for a barreled action in .270 win.

...and this would be doing things the hard way.

Some folks would regard the Sako 75 in a WSM caliber as a very desirable hunting package, so an option would be to sell the rifles you don't want anymore and buy what you want now.

Well, I had thought about the avenue of selling a couple of these rifles, I have a 75 in the Grey Wolf in 270 WSM, that is new in box, a Hunter Model in 270 WSM also NIB, and a Stainless Synthetic NIB.

I'll have to look and see, but I would sell them, I guess I should check into the trade market also....

You will almost always get more selling than trading with a dealer.

Yeah, I guess you would have to say I'm a 270 nut. I have a boatload of 270 Wins, and 7 in 270 WSM....I've justified them all in my mind by telling myself they all have a specific purpose--yeah right

None are lefties though...

Nothing wrong with that! I do it all the time.
