Ive been chatting with J-Husky in Pm. He plants a lot of soy, Id guess for animal feed, he can correct me if Im wrong. I was kidding him about the soy because Ive read more than one article warning about using much soy as it tends to elevate estrogen, and lower testosterone levels, in humans. Promotes breast growth and shrinking testicles.

    Then it hit me.

Could this be the reason for America becoming more effeminate. If cattle are fed a large % of soy products, it must affect the meat and milk people eat...could this be (one of the) reasons for the change. There are certainly others, more and larger cities with less physical labor. Liberal/ leftist values being pushed. But in the near 70 years Ive been on the planet Ive found there are usually a multiplicity of reasons for any, especially any rapid, change. Such as the increase of obesity with the onset of cheap food and super sizing.

The second article speaks of how much is acceptable, bot only relates to that taken directly as soy milk or such, but does not address that which we may ingest from meats or milk (or other dairy products).

    Interesting to consider, at least.

Certainly part of it. Crang hit up on other environmental factors in the other thread. Immune systems suddenly triggering on gluten is another facet showing we've gone too far off the reservation of reality with regards to pesticides and such.

"Cursed shall be thy basket and thy store."; comes to mind.

There's several other curses running in parallel right now.

Or buy/trade from a trusted source you really KNOW.

So much craziness we get from what we take in. Or what we ignore.
This includes storage and cookware big time.

And more nooky. Most people need more of this. Then your focus is clearer and you can work harder.
Porn kills your hormones and brain chemical levels.

There's synthetic estrogen and estrogen mimicing bullshit everywhere.

They've been bitching about it for decades.

You'd have to be a complete fucktard to think it's just coincidence that our food, water, and all the shit we store it in contains chemicals that more or less do the same thing as estrogen and that boys want to be girls to the point they're willing to get their dicks chopped off.

I find it incredibly remote that soy is reducing testosterone. I also doubt that much of the hype we place on "organic" food matters too much.

If you eat soy, you can go and get tested and keep a log.

Soy sucks. People tout its protein contribution but it is the least able to be easily assimilated by your system.

You would be surprised about yuor first statement. I eat largely organically, a lot from my garden in the summer. The first thing I noticed was that I ate, perhaps 30-40% less when eating organic. Your body knows at a deep level whats right for it. When I eat organic Ill find I just naturally stop eating sooner because my need is satisfied. When eating the other shit, I eat more because the body knows it has not received enough nutrition. Ive heard others say the same, so its not fantasy. Plus I feel more long term energy and stamina. Shit food is all calories, little nutrition.

Why eat some shit that you need to go get tested for. You cannot make it taste good, why bother. Theres better stuff. For instance, I never use white sugar at home, local, uncooked honey or maple syrup...or agave. white sugar is almost as poisonous as religion.

There is sound reasoning in why so many foreign countries outlaw Genetically Engineered crops, DDT, Glysophate and a host of other things that came about after WW2. It's your choice what to consume.

    Hobo

    This.

I lived in a little central Texas town that many years before had two DDT factories. You could easily see the difference between the people who grew up in town and drank town water and the ones who grew up on ranches and drank well water.

Shit food? Where did I say that. I said "hyped" food. Shit food in my opinion is fast food or heavily processed food. Not advocating that. If you eat an "organic" tomato versus another fresh tomato your assertion is that your body can tell the difference? I'd like to see that evidence. Eating properly does not require that you grow all your food. There is definitely some satisfaction with doing so but it is not required. Most people can't and don't and not because they can't but because they live in a place that doesn't facilitate that and other reasons. Although I agree that it is mostly because that skill is lost on most. I grow spices of all types not because it is better than fresh that I could buy but because it is a shit ton cheaper.

Furthermore, all ingredients have their place. Should you refrain from white sugar because it poisonous...C'mon. Is it detrimental to your health? Sure, if you eat a box a day but there are recipes where its properties are better suited than natural sugar. I know you make honey but honey has an incredibly powerful flavor along with the sweetness that is inappropriate for many recipes. Same for agave and many of the other natural sugars. Everything in moderation is fine. Go back 40-50 years ago, we used DDT to control insects. I don't see a lot of mutations. I worry more about irradiating vegetables.

I buy from local farmers whenever possible. We also can a lot and have a constantly rotating supply. Little to no processed food.

I'm not worried about my testosterone levels.

Stay away from fast food, processed food and greasy food and you'll be fine

How do I reply to that tactfully?

"If you eat an "organic" tomato versus another fresh tomato your assertion is that your body can tell the difference? I'd like to see that evidence. "

Thats my experience, and of others. Ive shared it, you can accept the testimony or not. I could care less. Is it empirically verifiable? Probably, but only over a long period of time study. Again, its a valid experience for myself and others, whether you accept it or not is up to you.

I wasnt speaking of you in particular, but the general populace of America. There is white sugar in everything. 26 grams in each 16 oz Coke. Do a study on what the effects of white sugar are on the body. Cancer loves it. Arthritis? Loves it.

Well if you want the "evidence" you'll have to do the research for yourself because the corporate food industry won't tell you.
Also not all "organic" is the same. A lot of "organic" is actually big corporate farms capitalizing on being able to charge more with a slightly different production stream.

The levels of nutrients vary depending on the breed and how it was grown.
The levels of toxic chemicals / metals and other things you don't want, can vary greatly based on the soil it was grown in.

And then there is the issue of if the mexican workers in the fields are pooping in the middle of the crops and not washing their hands and causing these big outbreaks of sickness here (which the government responds to by raiding small USA family organic farms at machine gun point to threaten them to shut down in the name of "food safety).

Actually what is in everything is high fructose corn syrup which is much cheaper (subsidized), much sweeter, and even worse for you than sugar.
It's forced on you like it or not for most people.
Like if you want a coke, you are stuck with it being loaded with high fructose corn syrup unless you pay extra to buy the stuff from Mexico that has real cane sugar. Stupid evil creatures that own the Dr. Pepper brand shut down the guys with a licence to make stuff with real cane sugar in the USA because it was becoming too popular and they preferred to force everyone to the corn syrup stuff.

Refined sugar is bad, but most of what is turning america into sick cattle is the high fructose corn syrup which is in almost everything from your bread to your drinks.

If you have time, here is a good video to watch on it:

Shows how the government's push to force kids to drink "low fat" chocolate milk and orange juice instead of plain whole milk is devastating to the health of the nation's children. (Fat didn't have a huge industry behind it to counteract the sugar & corn industry).

    Cha Ching.

For instance, organic heirloom tomatoes have far more nutrients than even organic hybridized ones.

Corn: While I like the hybridS ilver Queen because of its sweetness, and grow it organically, it doesnt have the nutritional value of a non hybrid. The Guatemalan Mayan people eat a ton of corn but its a heavy starchy corn, Give them the stuff we eat and they would starve...and thats exactly what the right wing governments are doing ot them.

    More Cha Ching. ;)

a bit off topic but years ago, when Gatorade sold for about $1.25 for a quart bottle here in the States, I was on a remote beach in southern Mexico and bought the same bottle, stamped 'Made in Philadelphia, if I remember correctly, for about $00.25. 20% of the price after shipping 2000 miles. How deeply we're getting fucked.

Do you have some supporting literature on that? Most heirlooms are just older hybrids.

Not readily available. But Ill look. You may be right as no doubt Jefferson et.al. did their own cross breedings. They damn sure taste better, though production is lower.

In a lot things, they divide it as well. Corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. That way the number one ingredient can be something other than corn syrup.

Have you tried some of the new "sun sugar" hybrid cherry tomatoes? They are like little berries. So sweet and sour. For the most part though, I am a Cherokee Purple guy. Besides roma's and sauce tomatoes anyway.

The higher the leave to fruit ratio on tomato, allows them to make more sugar per fruit. Is what i have heard.

Every year is new learning experience. That video up there by Gabe Brown is great little talk on soil, only 16 min. I pulled up a Mulberry tree in my deep much beds. I mulched them last year, and this was three year old or so tree. It came up by hand with most of the root system intact. About 2 feet of tap root. I remember trying to pull 6 inch first year elm trees out of my tilled beds, and you would be lucky to get 6 inches of root.

I hope you replanted that mulberry. Ive planted a couple on my place. Nothing quite like a fat black ripe mulberry. Also this year, 2 red and 2 white Nanking Cherry trees/bushes to go with the tart black cherries.

I dont have room for any more mulberry trees. It is still saved under a piece of carpet in a shady spot, but its time is running out. No one wants it and my mulberries are starting to bud out. I added a bunch of fruit trees this year as well as more perennial crops, focusing more towards a permaculture garden, that I add my annuals to each year.
