So, I put my scope on and leveled it out with two plumb bobs. I shouldered the rifle and everything looked straight as can be. I finally got to make a trip to the range this past weekend. My scope is a Nitrex Tr2 with the EBX reticle. It has holdover marks for both elevation and windage. I sighted in dead on at 200 and shot back to 500. At 300 I had to use the .5 right windage mark and at 440 I was using the full right windage mark WITH NO DAMN WIND BLOWING. So today, I got the Wheeler level tool and set it up. To get it straight the scope had to be canted damn near 30 degrees left. Looking where I was hitting at the range and what the level says should line me back up straight but why the hell am I soo crooked????

maybe your plumb bob was made in china? those strings are known to hang crooked.

Yea I've heard there is allot of sideways stuff over there in China. I don't think my raceways are square. The only thing I know to do is shoot it, then move it up 50 clicks and shoot it again. If its off line, just move the scope until I can line it back up, then it should track properly.

There is a lot to go wrong with going off the raceways. My prefered method is to center the scope directly above the bore and then plumb the scope. This way when you run the turrets it is always on centerline. This is the tool I use.

Those instructions above are way more complicated than need be. Set it on your barrel and then let the upper v groove rest on your scope bell. Rotate the rifle so the level reads level. This centers your scope directly over the bore. Then you can either sight to a pumb bob string or similar plumb or level surface and then rotate the scope in it's rings until they are plum at the same time the tool shows level. I usually just rest a small level on my top turret and align both levels. Then carefully snug up your rings. At this time is a good time to install or set your scope mounted anti-cant device. Once this is done then I use the level mounted on the scope or resting on the turret and sight on a plumb line to confirm that my scope retical is plumb. Using this method allows me to sight in and then spin up 30 MOA and still cut the vertical line on my target.
