Well, with the economy the way it is, and being currently unemployed, I have decided to quit smoking. 2 packs a day at $5 a pop. I figure the extra 3650 a year would be nice, and my lungs are gonna be a whole lot happier with me! Wish me luck!

Re: Cutbacks

I quit just before Thanksgiving. The cost wasn't the deciding factor, I was just done.....

Not easy, and like everything else I've quit I can't seem to find the money that I'm saving.

Re: Cutbacks

sobr, I sure wish someone could explain that one to me too. If I quit drinking, smoking and save all that money, how come I don't see it? Good thing Bourbon and Scotch and Tequila and Beer are cheaper than cigarettes(quit years ago), but man, a good cigar is well, I think I like all that too much to quit, besides, it's a stress reliver at the end of the day, a reflection, a good thing!

You can do it Creeter2! I smoked for 13yrs, started in the Marines. A Dark Green got me started on Salems then I switched to Marlboro Lights. Quit them in '97. Best thing I ever did.

Re: Cutbacks

I stopped in June 2007. I have stopped before for periods of years before but always seemed to start back up again. I think this one is it, I do not craive it the same way. I still crave it but it doesn't hit me with the same intensity it did before.

In all the times I was able to stop for more than 1 year I always did it cold turkey. The times I tried to wean myself down it always failed for me but everyone who has stopped has their own routine that finally worked for them.

I would start by making sure I could get at least 12 hours of uninterupted peace and quiet. Normally I would use Benadryl to sleep those 12 hours to get over the hump. I was in a haze for a few days because of the physical addiction. After that it was breaking the emotional habits, smoking in the car, after I ate, etc.

The first few days I had diarhea, nausea and legs cramps really bad. Green tea seemed to help me with the nausea and cramps.

It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.
