On my brand new Christmas tree. She ruined the one last year too.

Was sittin here reading posts and I hear her start flipping out and here the fuckin moron shocked herself chewing the wiring on my tree. Must've hurt since she pissed herself.

Anything I can spray on the tree to ward off any more chewing if the dipshit doesn't learn her lesson from this?

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

I've got another solution but you're not going to like it.

Upgrade to 220.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

They make anti dog chewing spray. I suggest mace on the cat in a squirt bottle. It will learn, and fast when its doing something you want it not to.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

Wet the carpet under the wiring to increase conductivity.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

LOL the point is not to kill the cat here guys. She's a real nice cat but the wire chewing has to stop.

There are Christmas tree skirts that apply mild shock under tree and resident outlet for cats. As a added bonus they can be laid on kitchen table or countertops. OR if santa brings a model train, once the cat gets used to the mechanical noise, the train with kitty toy payload can cross over the skirt. Just a idea.

Real nice or not, if she didn't learn her lesson today it might be time to look for a trade in.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

Wrinkled tinfoil on the floor around the tree. Cats hate stepping on it.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

Just get rid of the tree!

Save a few bucks and after the silly season you'll have money left over!

My daughter is the only one I do Christmas for, I lost the Christmas spirit years ago..

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

I once had a cat chew the wires to my car's O2 sensors in two. All I knew was I had a CEL so I took it to the dealer. The mechanic called me back to the car up on the rack and showed me the teeth marks on the wiring. He said he sees this occasionally, said the cats must get annoyed at the RF signal coming from the wires and attack them.

As amazing as that was, it was more amazing that my USAA auto insurance paid for the repair.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

tin foil worked for me. I also used it in potted plants cuz my kitty kat would jump up in them and fertilize for me.

This Christmas will be my third Christmas in a row spent in Iraq. I like to think I haven't "lost the Christmas spirit" but it's getting closer to the point of being able to declare it legally dead.

As for the cat- one would hope it learned...

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

Had the problem of my cat doing this. They sell some anti-chew spray at the pet store. I just started spraying it on cords and letting it dry. She still gets ahold of one every now and then.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

Wait...you have your xmas tree up already? You're eager. LOL

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

Bitter Apple for cats works pretty good. Its sold at most pet supply stores.

Sorry to hear that brother - My Christmas spirit is ONLY kept alive by the fact that I have a 15 year old daughter.

Were it not for her I would have zero Christmas spirit, none. I could rant on about the commercialism and the rudeness of people this time of year but shit I'd rather just see you make it back alive.

Come back alive brother. I have more Christmas spirit for you guys away from home!

If you need anything shoot me a PM.

This is why I've almost entirely stopped giving Christmas presents that are purchased. I do things for close family and that's it. Things like: I'll go up to my parents and spend a day cutting/stacking wood for my dad and then make dinner for my mom. I've grown tired of buying presents for people that, family or not, are really not close friends anyway and would otherwise not spend time with me or those close to me anyway.[/quote]

Deodorant/ antiperspirant usually works to keep animals from licking something.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

I loved this.
It reminded me of a cat we had about 10 years ago that did the cord chewing thing.
I happened to be looking that way when it did it but didn't realize what it was doing. It was behind the tree and I couldn't see it too good.
All of a sudden, zzztt, and the damn thing came flying out of there like it had a rocket up it's ass. It's tail was all fluffed out and it ran around like crazy for about a minute all over the house. I was laughing so hard I couldn't explain to my Old Lady what was wrong with the cat or what was so funny for about 5 min.
She didn't see the humor in that I did nor the next night when the damn cat tried to cimb the tree and it came over on top of him.
After that it stayed away from Christmas trees.
I must admit I have always hoped to see a rerun. Regards, FM

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

No suggestions here, just a request. In the chance that your cat hasn't learned it's lesson and whatever you try doesn't work, can you get it on camera the next time it shocks the shit out of itself? Foul Mike had me rolling with his story and I want to see it.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

You could always get into the Christmas spirit and buy you cat some mice to play with, that should keep it away from harm for awhile

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

That cat story is a no BS deal.
I laughed so hard I was about to puke.
My Squaw saw nothing funny about it, but to this day I remember it and laugh whenever I tell the story.
I like a good cat but have had some bad experiences with the damn things.
It was so funny that I, too, hope someone captures it where we all can watch.
To see how big around that cat's tail was was worth it all, let alone how it went wild, nuts and crazy.
The rocket in it's ass is an understatement. That fu---- went nuts. It flew around the house and didn't shut down for about 10 minutes. I laughed so hard and still need a laugh like that.
It was a good cat and lasted for about 11 years before I had to give it a Dirt Nap and I cried all of the time I did that.
Our pets are our friends, loving, faithful and nice to us. There are no more spoiled or pampered pets than come from my house, however, once in a while one gives you a shot at life like that cat did. Regards, FM

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

If the cat didnt learn its lesson yet, then let the punishment fit the crime. Cats are smart. I tricked one of my wifes cats into eating some fish with wasabi on it. I though rabies was the only thing that can make an animal foam at the mouth. That was almost a year ago, and she still wont take any food I offer. Some lessons are learned hard.

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

Here is another vote for Bitter Apple spray - our cat loved to chew shoe strings - but the Bitter Apple broke that

Re: Damn cat just shocked herself chewing wiring

After I flogged a dog with the wires she chewed up I rubbed a Jalapeno on the new ones and she never touched them again.
