Suppressors Dan Wesson Cbob 45ACP

Re: Dan Wesson Cbob 45ACP

I absolutely LOVE my cbob! wouldn't trade it for anything! I can't help you with your mag question, but I can't see how you could possibly be unhappy when you get a hold of it!!

Not a single malfunction in about 500rds so far with mine. Runs like a top! They have a VERY tight frame to slide fit, mine benefited well from some manual racking to work it in. Still damn snug now but never caused a single hickup!

I can definitely say I am happy I bought mine when I did! The going price for them has risen sharply!

Re: Dan Wesson Cbob 45ACP

I have one. Bought it a couple of years ago. Runs perfectly. Only had one jam with it (out of spec round) and everything else worked great. They currently make them for ca gun owners since it is on the approved roster but when it drops off they are supposed to stop making it. Granted they also said the same thing last time it came up for renewell and then they renewed it, so take it for what it is worth. The prices have gone up dramatically in the last 3 years and I am glad I got line when I did. I was actually thinking about selling it to help pay for some bills coming up later this year. Wife's birthday, Christmas and wife will get her masters degree all within a 2 week period in December and that is just a lot of presents. I have decode that I am a revolver guy and have sold all of my auto loaders except the cbob at this point because I just hate picking up brass.

Re: Dan Wesson Cbob 45ACP

Yeah, well it came in and is having trouble feeding even one mag of gold dot and stovepipes or FTEs on about every 10th or 12th hardball (WWB 230 grainers).

I have experience with 1911s but am not a gunsmith...I am pretty sure the extractor needs some tuning since the empties are bouncing off my hat. As for the other malfunctions they happen with both the factory and the wilson 47Ds. The slide is catching the empties in the ejection port backwards, with the mouth of the case facing rearwards.

I changed the recoil spring for a new one, thinking that it was probably worn out and could be the source. No dice. I may clip a coil off the spring and lighten it a little...these are exactly the kind of problems I didnt want to buy and why I asked the owner several times if it had any of these issues. Perhaps a lighter spring and a slight bend-in of the extractor would get the empties out the right and clear of slide travel.

The trigger is unusually light as well, even for a 1911. I thinking it is barely 2.5 lbs (feels like a good jewell - but not enough really for a carry weapon IMHO I like about 3-4). This is a small issue/personal preference and not really my concern here just something I would fix. Wish I could install it on a 700 I have

Something else wierd - the rear trijicons are bright, as they should be for a 2006 model but the front sight is very dim and barely visible. Tried cleaning out the sight with q tip and water thinking fouling was blocking the light but it is just dim. Never had sights fade that unevenly so I'm stumped here. Owner said they were bright. Well the rears are...

I am not happy about the transaction as it was sold to me as a reliable carry weapon and is obviously not at this time. I have emailed the owner yesterday and am waiting on what he has to say. Seemed like a nice guy over the phone and I have never had a single problem with any weapon I have bought here at the hide, other forums etc so maybe I just have a false sense of security about buying weapons "sight unseen" but most gun enthusiasts/professionals are about the most stand up group you can get. Hopefully he comes back with a good explanation as I like to trust people and will just buy it back. We'll see. Nothing in the shipping process ought to produce these kind of issues. I am very careful and point out any issues with weapons I sell so there are never these kinds of surprises.

I will say this for it though, it is accurate, got a 1.25 inch group from 8 yards offhand with the first 7 rounds of winchester hardball, so it can shoot better than I can hold which is nice. I'm sure it would be impressive over sandbags at 25 yards. I have gotten easy 2 inch groups with the TRP at 25over rests and thought it was the most accurate pistol I had...

Re: Dan Wesson Cbob 45ACP

Hey shooting4 life - if you have a reliable running 1911 then KEEP IT and sell something else. They are actually pretty rare...I have regretted selling good running 1911s. But is you want to trade it to me...

Re: Dan Wesson Cbob 45ACP

Man I'm sorry to hear about that KYPatriot! That is most definitely a bummer! Over on one of the 1911 forums (can't remember which exactly but one of the big ones) they have a DW sub-forum with at least one guy from the factory who used to frequent there, might be worth checking into. Sorry for the vague info but I have since lost my bookmark for the site/page. I do remember DW/CZ being very helpful on issues though for guys that need to send them in for repair! Would be worth it in my opinion to try and get it sorted for sure! I'm not a big 1911 guy so I haven't personally shot the Ed Brown's etc etc but I can't imagine needing anything more in a 1911 then I got with my cbob!

And yes mine is very accurate as well as good looking!! I have a target pic somewhere from when I was working up loads that was very impressive! Specially with me behind the trigger!

I hope you get it figured out, or at least straightened out from the seller. Let us know how it goes!

And sorry Fast Eddie, no baby sitting needed!

Here is the link to the DW subforum! Found it on a search. Worth checking out for sure!

Re: Dan Wesson Cbob 45ACP

The seller got back to me and says he didnt have those issues, I dont know but I have shot a lot of 1911s and for once I can say it isnt me.

I know the site you are talking about, kinda slow over there but good info I think.

I have asked to return it at my cost on the shipping and I think most guys stand behind this stuff, at least that has been my experience although I haven't ever needed ro return anything to a private seller. As the original owner Dan Wesson will back him up at least, but the lifetime warranty doesn't transfer - I checked around on that.

There is nothing better than a sweet runnin 1911, but the finicky ones are maddening. Sorta like women!!

I keep going back and forth on selling it. I just don't like picking up brass and just don't take it to the range any more. I bet if I took it next time I would not want to sell it.

Re: Dan Wesson Cbob 45ACP

4life,
Well tell you what. If i get this worked out with this other guy and you are in the selling mood I might just take that off your hands. I do understand about the brass - i spent awhile combing through the grass behind my house as this thing was ejecting all over the place.

Shoot me a pm if you decide to let it go. I really like these and want to get one that runs good.

This sounds like good advice, after all, most of us do consider customer service when buying a new handgun. We are either happy about it, or just suck it up when it sucks. I would give them a chance to look at it. Even if the previous owner made mods that are causing your issues, it will be at its birthplace, what better time to have it fixed? If you are not happy with it, you won't shoot it. Why have that investment laying around? I say send it off unless you have a good 1911 smith that can check it out.
