DBM conversion...best bang for the buck??

I am looking to convert my SPS to a DBM set-up. I am not a cheap skate but money is some object, but it must function properly so if I have to spend a little more so be it. I am looking for suggestions from the members here. Also, are there any that use mags that are more common such as M14 type, etc.?

it's relatively cheap, works flawlessly, and wasn't terrible to install. Thought it is not drop in and most likely a gunsmith install is recommended.

I do not know of any reliable M14 bottom metals for the 700, i've seen some videos of guys on youtube who milled thier own but even those were flawed.

I advise you to use DBM that uses AICS style magazines. They are commonly used in the precision rifle community. Surgeon, Seekins, Badger, APA, and CDI all use AICS magazines, as well as most chassis systems such as McRees, AI, Manners, etc.

In my opinion, pardon the pun, but the best "bang for your buck" is the Manners Mini-Chassis. It gives you a rugged stock that requires no bedding and DBM capability all in one shot. You read the details about one here: MCS BDL and DBM Mini Chassis | Manners Composite Stocks

Buying a mini-chassis off this gentleman would probably be the best bang for you buck, least labor intensive, and the most accurate if you don't intend to bed.

It is, but they also aren't in stock. I just called them on Friday. So if you want one now, Stocky's and Midway have them in stock.

Have you upgraded the stock yet? If not doing a DBM that will require in letting before a decent stock is pretty backwards. Inletting will run you about $60-80 by a reputable smith on top of the bottom metal cost. With bottom metals you get what you pay for, I wouldn't buy anything but Seekins, Surgeon, APA, or Badger. I prefer the APA or Seekins because of the releases.

If you haven't upgraded the stock now is the time to do so and save some cash regardless which route you go. Bang for the buck by far is a AICS chassis for $800ish or any of the manners mini chassis stocks for $900ish. With either you get a top notch stock that is 100% drop in with DBM and a mag included. Even an HS precision B&C is going to run you $700 or so by time you get the stock, ship it back and forth for inletting, and get the DBM system. It won't be anywhere near the stock that an AICS or Manners is.

This is why I'm going with a Mcree chassis. I have a Manners T2 that I got in a trade and was going to send it off to get inletted and have a Badger dbm installed. By time I figure in shipping, about $30 each way, $85 to inlet, and another $330 for the Badger, it's almost as cheap to go with the Mcree. Not to mention, I will have an adjustable comb rather than adding a stock pack.

I would agree that going to a chassis and just spending the money is way better in the long run, and cheaper too.

That said, I would suggest the Rock Solid. It is bad ass. It has a flared mag well that is easy to shove your mags into blindly, and it is heavy duty enough to ram into barricades. They run $750. That's way cheaper than a good stock and a bottom metal kit.

For those of you that may need the detachable stealth I have worked out a deal with a mag company. I will soon have (4 mo.'s ) the Stealth with a 5 round or 10 round for 149 bucks . It cant get much better than that.

What are these mags going to be? As reliable as the AI mags. I'm looking to purchase a stealth with a AI 5 round mag.

Yes we will have them for the long action . As a matter of fact my goal is to have sets for Savage and Winchester also . I am setting up 9 cnc machines to build these units , as we have many private contracts. Many new things to come

+1 for mcrees-adjustable to any specific application, bomb proof, price is great, mags are great as is the price, common fasteners if you need a replacement, just a great all around choice.

For lower budget: B&C stock + Wyatt's DBM & Mag from Stocky's. That will get you a stock, bottom metal, and a mag that works very well with no hassle. It is no AI compatible, but fit is drop-in and go. No inletting, fitting, etc. Reduced recoil a lot too.

That said, I sold mine and bought a used folding stock Mcree chassis and love it.

+ 1 for McRee by the time you buy bottom metal fit it the eventually change stocks you are better off just buying a McRee on a budget get the no folder and upgrade later you can but the parts and put them on your self

For a drop in no gunsmith required I went with a Boyds laminate thumbhole stock and Wyatt's outdoor DBM package. Comes with one 5 round mag. The mags aren't AIC so I bought two extra 10 rounders.

With this setup no inletting required, the barrel is free floated already.

15 minute install, start to finish. If I want EBR tactical, I'll just Rhino line the stock, Lol

I got tired of looking so I just sent mine to Badger after watching their video on how they do it. It runs $75 and no longer than 10 days. I had mine back in a week.

I did it myself with a rotozip and a bastard file. It worked for me, took longer than expected and was frustrating at times, but it works. I then bedded the rifle to complete the event. I would suggest having a professional do it, there are a few idiot marks on my rifle from doing it myself.
