Shotguns fire shells, pistol/rifle cartridges use 'cases.'
Just go slowly when pushing them back out and things should be fine with no bang. I've used primers that I've had to punch out in the past and they've been fine.
If you're worried and you haven't done a lot of them, you can save them for plinking ammo, if you want.
You can resize them with the correct bushing and not even deprime them if you want. Remove the decapping rod, as you surmised and install the right bushing.
I have both 215s and 215Ms and use the 215Ms in my 338LM and 7RM reloads.
