I've decided I am going the SDMR route. I'm just not sure on the barrel manufacturer yet. I can get the White Oak Armament, Krieger (long wait time though) or Douglas barrel by Compass Lake Engineering. They have the Douglas barrels in stock for 410.00. Which one would you get?? I'm ready to get this thing completed.

1-7 or 1-8 Twist?? I think the Army uses the 1-8 twist.

Also I will need a good quality lower and upper receiver. What would you go with? Looking to buy them both matching.

Thanks,

Alan

Re: Decision on barrel maker for SDMR

I have a WOA SDMR barrel in 1/7 mounted on a VLTOR modular upper with a DD Lite rail. The combination is quite accurate up to 600 yards (the limit of my local range). With the 1/8 you would get a high muzzle velocity using the same weight round. How much more and whether it's "worth it" is one of those academic-type issues that you might find on a previous post. Good luck.

I have a WOA 18" that has the fluting. It shoots great. I have never had a bad WOA barrel, everyone has shot great. You can't beat there prices. Rainier Arms uses WOA barrels. Both company is top notch.

Re: Decision on barrel maker for SDMR

Just ordered a 18" spr WOA barrel last night from Rainer Arms. I've heard nothing but good things about the WOA barrels.

Re: Decision on barrel maker for SDMR

I just put the WOA SPR 18" barrel on my AR, and took it to the range yesterday for it's maiden voyage. I am thoroughly impressed! Shot some handloads (69 gr smk's, various loads w/varget & xmr 2015) and it was VERY consistent.

It was up in the air between the Rainier Arms (which I'm sure is a pleasant piece of equipment) and the WOA. I have to say, I didn't make a bad choice!

Is that the 15" Troy FF tube?

Re: Decision on barrel maker for SDMR

I have the White Oak Armament 20" SDM 1/7 also.
I originally wanted the Rainer UltraMatch 18" 1/8 but I got tired of waiting ~ and am very pleased with the WOA.
Now they have a 1/8 20" UM that would be great too.
I am a big fan of the UltraMatch barrel but the WOA ain't too shabby either.
