I've been a rifle for shooting steel at 1000 yards with, long term goal it to get to 1760 yards. I debated on buying a 50 bmg since one day they may become hard to get, but can't find one with the accuracy I'm looking for (keep in mind I'm going based on internet reviews). If I go with a 50 I'm looking at bolt action, not single shots.
I've also toyed with the idea of a 308 or 338 lapua, 308 for ammo availability and 338 for longer range. As for brands; accuracy international, GAP, Surgeon, barrett, DTA, and mcmillan are top of the list. Accuracy international 50 is out of my price range, otherwise I wouldn't be posting this. I'm hoping to keep it under $5000, but $7000 is my max for rifle only.
I've also consdered 7mm wsm and 6.5 creedmoor but have no experience with them.
