Suppressors Diamond Whet Stone or Arkansas Whet Stone?

I'm looking to get something better than my current sharpening rig (Smith's). My Dad always had a slab of Arkansas Whet Stone available for knife sharpening emergencies, but he also hated air conditioning (made you weak... I know, different generation). I've looked at the ceramic sticks, whet stones, diamond stones, etc. Anyone recommendations? Do the diamond whet stones do any better than the Arkansas stones? I'd need it to improve the edge on my skinning knife and keep a good edge on my everyday carry CRKT.

I sharpened my knives with sandpaper on top an old mousepad. Then finish it up with leather hone.

Yeah convex edges are nice. but a lil hard to learn...
