Search suggested the last thread on this pistol ended 1/2010. Lot's happened since then. Reading available on the internet is all over the map. Various detracting posts and comments suggest significant teething problems, but there are also reports of happiness and success.

I picked up one at a dealer this weekend on impulse as I really like the feel of this one vs. my KelTec P3AT. After all the reading, however, I'm a little hesitant to get into the gun with a lot of range time instead of just returning it and waiting for more results.

Does anyone here own and/or have hands-on experience with this pistol? If so, please share!

Buehler? Buehler?

Re: Diamondback 380

A buddy of mine just picked one up.
We took it to the range about 2 weeks ago and put 100 rounds through it.
No problems and it has a nice trigger.
That isn't much of a wringing out to me but its a nice start.
I would feel good after putting 500+ through the gun but that's just me.
I really liked it due to it's trigger and extremely thin profile.
I wouldn't return it.

Re: Diamondback 380

I really like the looks of this one. Does it have last shot hold open? I've been looking at the Kahr P380 and one this it really has going for it is last shot hold open.

Re: Diamondback 380

I have had the Diamondback 380 for several months put 200 or 300 rounds through it with no problems. the gun shoots well slide does not hold open on last round. I also have the Kahr P380 have shot it about the same 200 or 300 rounds. the Kahr also shoots well on this gun the slide locks open on the last shot. I like both guns not much difference in size both guns will fit in my jeans back pocket. The feel of both guns is good but different pick the one that feels best in your hand. Both manufactures stand behind their products and fix problems if one should one arise.

Re: Diamondback 380

OP,
I bought one on an impulse buy a few months ago. I just felt better than most other minis I've held and the price was right. Unfortunately, I didn't get it to the range before the new baby came along, so I haven't shot it yet. From what I've read, some folds have had cracks develop just behind the ejection port, so I'll be keeping an eye on that area. Now to find 380 that isn't more expensive than 45 and send a few downrange!

Re: Diamondback 380

Thanks for the replies. I did get it out to the range and ran 100 rounds through it. It wasn't my best day. Number of FTE and FTF issues. To be fair, I was using inexpensive reloads from MSI and the gun was made for hot defense loads. I've got some PMC now and plan to get back out to the range for another break-in session. More as I learn it.

Re: Diamondback 380

I bought a Sig P238 but had not fired it until a few weeks ago on vacation. Went to a gun range where they had a rental Diamondback so I got it, lubed it (it was pretty dry), bought a bunch of .380 ammo, and went to work.

The Diamondback would not go through a magazine without a failure to feed or extract, sometimes multiple times. Trigger was LONG.

The Sig P238, on the other hand, fed and extracted without fail, single-action trigger was very nice, and it was as accurate as I wanted.

Sure, the Diamondback gun was a rental and probably hadn't been cleaned but surely the range ownership would have rectified it? No matter, though...the trigger alone was enough to turn me off of the gun, let alone the reliability issues.

Just a note....you cannot limp wrist the diamondback 380 at all. Just a drawback to the tiny 380 semi's like the LCP and KelTec.

Re: Diamondback 380

had the oppotunity to try one out .
gotta tell ya thats a nice ccw piece great weight and balance
for its size if illinois ever allows concealed carry that would be one i would have to have .

Re: Diamondback 380

I have not had an issue with mine. Have a little over 200 rds through mine. Like someone stated, bad ammo and a limpwristing are the two biggest thing for this little black gun. I have fed mine Remington and Ranger ammo and have not had any problems with mine. It is lighter and easier to take down than the baby eagle that I use to have. Sights are more than adequate compared to most pocket guns.

Re: Diamondback 380

Update: I've taken this gun out for several more sessions and it's running fine now. I took it through a few clean and lubes, but primarily worked on getting the springs worked in. I started with a box of defense loads -- expensive, yes, but I wanted hot rounds. Then I put it through 200 rounds of factory ammo.

I am confident now that this gun is reliable as a carry.

Re: Diamondback 380

I've sold 32 of them and have had only one return. It was a female college student that lived off campus. She mentioned it would not feed. I took her to the range and watched her shoot. She was limp wristing it. I showed her how to hold it when shooting and problem solved.
