I think the barreled action is the same and since you are likely replacing the stock and adding DBM, it makes sense to go that route. I would have cdi handle the stock/DBM unless you are buying chassis.

SPS varmint will have a heavier barrel, the SPS has a better stock than the adl.

the adl was discontinued several years ago... I think it unlikely there are still some of them floating around at dicks...

There are a bunch of brand new blind mag "ADL's"?? at my local Wally world. Are you saying these blind mag plastic stock guns will no longer be available?

Walmart and Dick's put in a rather large order of adl style rifles prior to Remington ending the adl production. As to the difference in the two, on comes with a garbage plastic stock and drop out mag, the other comes with an equally junk stock, a blind mag, and a $50 scope.

They were discontinued from the regular line, yes, but a couple of the big box stores have exclusive lines that Remington still makes for them.

I think OP is referring to the ADL varmint model that Dicks offers/offered for a while. There is no difference in the barreled action and it would be preferred if you will go straight to an aftermarket stock and dbm system. It is usually about $100 cheaper than the SPS varmint.

Here is an example of a Comp rifle John made for his wife. He used the ADL Varmint as the base barreled action.

the adl stocks are good for practicing stippling, and that is about it. I actually like the SPS varmint stock I have on my .204, it works well for a factory stock. I shot a 5 round group around 1.5 " at 200 yards yesterday, my second try at a load. The rifle wouldn't shoot the first load very well, I don't think the very long lead free bullets were stabilized.

That's much better than mine. I couldn't get inside 6" at 50 yards. Did a Cerosafe casting, and at the smallest point it was .205. It's getting a Green Mountain barrel put on it now. Should have it back soon.

The adl barrels are sporter weight, with sights drilled and screwed to the barrel if they are the same as the generic ADL straight from remington. A varmint sps will have a heavier weight barrel with no attachments.

action should be exactly the same I am not sure about the finish. Trigger should be the same.

One more time,,,,, the ADL Varmint sold by Dicks is the EXACT same barreled action as the SPS varmint. It is a limited run rifle for Dicks and the only difference is the Stock, and Blind magazine. The barrel is the same in contour, length, twist, etc. The action is the same. The trigger is the same, The bolt is the same, Recoil lug .....yes the same.

Oh, and its cheaper so thats not the same.

I bought a Dick's Varmint ADL because the price was less than the cost of the action. The barreled action is exactly the same as the SPS tactical I own. The SPS Hogue stock is about as worthless as the ADL with the addition of pot metal bottom metal included with SPS. The Dick's Varmint ADL is a by far a better deal. Toss the stock, replace the trigger with a Timney and torque into the chassis of your choosing and you are good to go.

I will buy another Dick's ADL if they come down to that price again, hard deal to pass up.

Not a limited run, but your description except for the trigger is spot on. Dicks has a few model ADLs that are "special runs" with heavier bbls on Rems website, and that may be what you were looking at. ADLs are available at walmart, dicks, gander mtn, ect. all the time with new ones showing up daily. Just picked up one mfg'ed a few months ago in .243 for $450 in mossy oak with a sporter bbl. Remington continues to make these rifles for most all the large retailers. It is Remmys answer to the Savage 111. And shoot just as good as any other 700 with the same lightweight bbl, but you can find ADLs with heavier contours occasionally. They come with the Xmark trigger that is not easily adjusted though.

Just dropped a black Friday Dick's ADL Varmint .308 into a B&C 1000. 15 rounds of soft point, cleaned and then shot three 5 shot moa groups with Federal GM 168. If it stays in that stock and gets bedded it should get close to 1/2 minute. I've done the same with a Dick's .223 and .243. Too cheap to pass up.

Keep watching and they'll go on sale. I used the $50 GC from last year on this years.
